night time scares me

I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same thing.

I am so scared of going to bed because DD fusses and makes noises and they sound so horrible over of the baby monitor.  I can go in and it sounds like she is cooing or grunting or hiccuping and it sounds ok but over the baby monitor it's all distorted and sounds like an exorcism is being performed.  I get really worried and paranoid about these noises and then it makes me very anxious.

Anyone else experiencing this or have any advice?

Re: night time scares me

  • My daughter has reflux and we are trying to get it under control. She actually has episodes sometimes where milk comes out of her nose (even 2 hours after feeding). She screams in pain, contorts her body, and holds her breath. I actually sleep on the couch with them in their rock and plays or even have them right next to me in their halos (I know to some people this is wrong). Sometimes it's the only way she actually doesn't have an issue. Could you move LO into your room till you feel comfortable (maybe in a moses basket?) My friend then put baby in moses basket in crib so they had an easy transition. Definitely understand being scared about all sounds though!!

  • I'm sorry, thats stressful! I have Eliya right next to me in the PNP, and I'm getting more and more accusotomed to her noises and sleeping better thru them, it just takes some time. I don't have a lot to offer on the monitor I don't remember having that issue with L and we haven't even set one up this time.

THe Snuza really makes me feel more at ease tho!

That sounds really rough, especially having 2.  I hope your daughter's reflux gets under control soon.

I was hesitant to have LO in our room at all for a few reasons.  I know some might make sense and some might not.

1 - Honestly, I do want to make sure DH will be able to sleep once he is back to work (Thursday)

2 - Personally, I do not want LO ever in bed with us (nursing or sleeping)  because I have a tendency to sleep walk/wander (I'll think people are there and things are happening that are not but I generally remember them the next day) and I can see myself more easily just picking her up and having her end up in our bed in an unsafe situation.  I've woken up almost every night since we've been home thinking that she IS in the bed with me and panicking.  My uncle is giving up a bassinet sometime this week but I'm torn on using it.  She seems to tolerate the crib, it's just more MY anxiety so I think I should let her stay there.

For the first 2 or 3 nights that she was home until we got the baby monitor situation figured out, I slept on the floor in her room and I think I would do that again before bringing her in my room.

I just wish the monitors had better sound!

I am getting more accustomed to the noises now but it just seems to be this ridiculous non-sensical anxiety!

Since birth, I'm pretty much deaf in my left ear and I've gotten used to sleeping with that one up so that I don't get woken up too easily by things.  This is obviously good and bad in this situation.  I figured, the general noises are normal and if she's really having a hard time (needs to be changed or fed) she's going to wail and one of us will hear her.  The sound monitor is pretty much being used just to amplify the sound of the Snuza alarm if it goes off so I hear it.  However, this morning, DH had to wake me when my phone alarm was going off because I finally got some good sleep and was out so hard with my bad ear up that I didn't hear it.  This is a problem.

Ultimately, I think I have to realize that I do have some good momma instincts and that we are just getting used to each other and not to be so hard on myself.

    Thanks, ladies.
