Two Under 2

Does anyone not NEED a double stroller?

I'm still waffling over buying one.  I usually go places with my husband or family, so we can push 2 strollers, and I'm wondering how often I'll be alone and needing to push both kids in the double. I'm also worried my 2 year old will hit a stage where she doesn't want/need to be in a stroller anymore.

Does anyone find they don't really need a double?

  • This is one of the main reasons we went with the city select!

  • I'm trying to avoid the cost of a double though, the city select would be increasing it.  Wink  I also have extremely tall kids and the city select would be uncomfortable for my 2 year old now, nevermind when she was 4.

LOL!  I might not be any help, but I LOVE this stroller!  It is so easy with everything.  You really can't go wrong!

I don't know about the tall kids though as my 21 month old is tiny.  You would never think she would be as MH is 6'4" and I'm 5'10".  My little one is going to be my big one!

  • If you both work full time and you'd never really be out for long periods of time without someone else with you I would not buy a double.

I've liked having a double stroller and found it convenient in certain situations, but I wouldn't say I *needed* it. I get by just fine wearing my youngest/letting my older child walk.

This.  I use the shopping cart that looks like a car or two carts when DH is with us.  For travel, we use the umbrella stroller clips.  There are times it would have been more convenient to have a double, but so unnecessary.  I never take them to the mall or anyplace like that, and we have a wagon for trips to the park.

  • I'm so glad I bought my double on craigslist.  We have a double maclaren $100 on craigslist and DD1 will only ride in it for a short period of time before wanting to walk around.

I thought it would be great for places like the zoo but she proved me wrong and refused to get back in the stroller even when she was tired of walking.

  • My oldest will not sit in a stroller.  So we didn't buy one and won't be buying one.

I, too, only go out with both if someone is with me.

  • We do not have a double stroller and so far don't plan on getting one. I personally don't like strollers and don't even bring a single most places. I can count on one hand the number of times I've brought our stroller in the car. We did have a period where we used the stroller daily for walking the dog, basically from when my son was too heavy to want to wear (and it was summer) until he was able to walk far and fast enough for a 30 minute (1 mile) dog walk.

Now that we have two I wear the little one and the big one walks. Every once in a while I'll bring the stroller for the little one. I think she'll actually end up getting more use out of it then he did. I basically use it for her if we're at the science museum or something else where my son will want a lot of interaction and I'd be up and down a lot. I also always bring a carrier so if my son were to want to get in the stroller I could wear my daughter, but it has only happened once.

Basically we looked at our stroller usage with one kid and decided that it wasn't worth it with two.

  • If you are out with DH and pushing 2 strollers, what if one of them wants to get out? You're stuck pushing an empty stroller trying to either hold a baby or watch a toddler. It seems easier to have one stroller, IMO. Check craigslist or other sites...there are good deals out there!
  • We got a double for outdoor walks, because we do that a lot. We are undecided about a tandem for indoors. I suspect there are times that I will really want both in a stroller for safety or convenience reasons, regardless of whether DD wants to walk. And, I agree with PP. she can always walk alongside the double with one empty seat, but if I don't have the double then I lose the option of 2 napping kids ...
  • We bought one but only used it a hand full of times so we sold it on craigs list pretty early on.

In the baby stage I pushed the toddler in a single and wore the baby a lot.

As they got older we used a sit and stand but there is no way my older toddler was staying in a regular double stroller.  The sit and stand made way more sense for us.

    17 months apart here.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • I won't be buying one until I discover a need for one.

I've never used our single stroller.  Ever.

  • I've never needed or wanted a double stroller. I frequently take both kids with me alone. I either wear the little one and hold the hand of the bigger one or use a cart if we are somewhere that offers them.

If we do a zoo trip or something like that we use a cheap foldable single stroller and just switch off if the older child gets tired or falls asleep and carry the small one as long as he's sleeping.

  • I live in an urban environment where you walk everywhere so I personally can not imagine not having a double stroller. I'm moving to the burbs soon so we'll see. My babies tend to be fatties so my back kills me w/ too much baby wearing. My son is so used to being in the stroller to go anywhere because that's just how we do it. I can't have him running all over the streets of NY. It is like being in a car for him. And he knows we can't get anywhere w/ out the stroller.
