Holy cripes - you think I can remember that far back? It's seriously a blur -- sad. I wish I was the type to keep a journal. I'll be interested to hear other stories though.
DD was in the NICU for 3 days (it was really a precautionary stay) so I essentially had supervised visiting with her where I tried to BF for a little bit and then they made me give her formula. She was born Wednesday night and I wasn't alone with her until Saturday afternoon. DH had to work that day. He got to the hospital around 7pm and we packed. By that point, I hadn't successfully BFd.
We packed and did all the checking out and stuff and finally left around 8:30 or 9pm and drove the 35 minutes home. I had read something that said to give the baby a tour of the home and then have some tea and relax. We got home and made it into the first room. Then my parents came over and my mom set up dinner for us. I felt bad that she was doing all that stuff and now realize how completely stupid I was. I should have let her take as much care of us as she wanted.
They made me and DH sit and eat (I am so thankful for that!) and then cleaned up and then left. We swaddled DD in a receiving blanket (I don't even know what blanket we had since we didn't get anything for DD before she was born) and put her in the bassinet in our room that was right next to the bed. (I don't remember if I fed her at that point but I must have tried...at least I hope!) As soon as she touched the bassinet, she started shrieking and continued until 4am. We finally gave her formula and then put her in bed with us and she finally slept - and didn't wake up until like 11 the next day. She ate a little and then kept sleeping. We called our parents and asked if we should wake her and they told us not to. We were watching tv on the couch and put her lying on the seat between us.
And then everything from that point until a few weeks later is a total blur! I don't remember when and how we got things. I'm kind of impressed that we managed without so many things for so long. I also remember that I needed a lot of warning before anyone came over because I was nervous about nursing and didn't feel comfortable doing it in front of anyone else.
I don't remember a whole lot. It was pretty anti-climatic, actually. After signing the release papers it took them about 3 hours to send someone to take us downstairs. First they forgot about us, then they were backed up, after calling them many MANY times, finally the nursery nurse took us herselves because she was ashamed of how long the escorts were taking. DD cried the whole way home except when I let her suck on my finger. Got home, changed her diaper, and then she fell in love with the swing. We had fast food for lunch and dinner. She slept a lot and I just spent the evening staring at her. That night was rough, but that's to be expected.
We brought DD home on a Sunday an hour or so before the big Bears game! She wore her Bear's onesie that DH bought her the day we found out we were having a girl. That is all I really remember. OH, I was super nervous riding home from the hospital with her. I remember telling DH numerous times to slow down and be careful! LOL

#1-I got released early, maybe around 11? It was the day before Christmas Eve. DS was born during a blizzard so there was still lots of snow on the ground. We went home and took a ton of pictures around the Christmas tree.
#2-I didnt get released until 6pm on Friday 1/14. I had a blood patch for my spinal headache early that morning and had some bp issues the day prior so they wanted to keep me longer. My dr didnt want me to go home until Saturday morning but I whined enough and he discharged me. LOL. We picked up DS from my parents and went home. I spent about an hour snuggling them both in my rocker until we put DS to bed at 8. I remember him being so confused by this little tiny being. lol
DS#1 - I was about to go crazy to get out of the hospital - was admitted on Thursday evening - C-Section Friday at lunch time - didn't go home until late Tuesday morning. We lived in a 3rd floor apartment right around the corner from my office at that time. It sucked to climb up 3 flights of steps after a c-section. DH had to carry Justin up so I just used the rail. He was a truck driver at the time and had been home for 3 weeks waiting for me to have the baby so he got us settled and went to work. One of my dear co-workers came by late afternoon to check on me and Justin. I discovered I had trouble getting out of bed on my own so I moved to sleeping on the couch. DH came home late that evening and the next day he left on a 5 day run.
DS#2 - I forgot that you had to pass gas to get discharged after having a C-Section. I had Joshua on Monday morning and was heading home Wednesday morning - the doctor asked about the gas and I told the truth. Plus she decided to run some bloodwork one more time because I had a questionable platelet count the day before. After three or four hours they finally got the bloodwork and the results to spring me - oh and a lie about the farting too. DH had to help me into the backseat of his pick-up and off we went. DH picked Justin up from school after he had Joshua & I settled at home. He had put a balloon on the mailbox and a ribbon on the porch that morning before he came to the hospital. I sat around the rest of the day snuggling Joshua.
His mom had told us she was going to bring us supper that night - after I had turned down my parents offer for that night MIL called (around 5pm) and told us she had not been feeling well so she wasn't going to bring it. So DH ran out to McDonalds - It made me sick and I threw up in the side of the sink with the garbage disposal.

You know - for some reason I thought you meant the first day home alone by myself with LO... but the first day home from the hospital I vaguely remember.
We brought JT home and took pictures outside the front door, then in the foyer, then on the living room floor. Took off all of his many layers, gave him a tour of the house, and soon after my FIL and MIL came over. I remember asking my aunt, uncle and cousins to come over cause I was afraid of my MIL...I don't remember why. Maybe I thought she wasn't going to leave?? LOL I remember I took a nap and my family hung out with JT in the room with the fireplace and Christmas tree. They also set up his swing in there. I don't remember much else. Oh yeah, DH was an awesome swaddler so we used those A&A blankets and put JT in the co-sleeper next to our bed. It was a long long night.
With DS our family was all at the house. We got home around noon, had a great meal made by my mom and MIL. Took lots of pics and everyone left before dinner. Spent the rest of the day snuggling, snoozing and BFing.
Pretty much exactly the same scene with DD. Got home at noon, ate, spent the rest of the day snuggling, snoozing and BFing. My parents took Aiden back to NE with them for a week, so we could have some alone time with Emily and get settled in. BEST gift they could have given us!
