Is it normal

For us to have a real contraction here and there? I don't think I've had any BH's my entire pregnancy. But about an hour ago, my lower abdomen felt very crampy for less than 40 seconds and then went away. It hasn't come back. I always hear posters post advice "Dr. said to call if I get "x" amount in an hour". Since I only got 1, I didn't make a big deal out of it but just wondered if it was normal.

Thanks in advanced!

Re: Is it normal

  • I get one randomly as well. However, what gets me is that people say BH shouldn't be painful... well I do get cramps that I would consider slightly painful... like a period cramp. But only one and its random from time to time. So it doesn't worry me, I just think it's my body practicing for the real thing, as PP said.

I agree-mine is slightly painful too. Kinda like the cramps that precede the day or two before your period. My belly also got extremely hard.

If the pain intensifies, last for a long time, or is accompanied by blood or fluid though, I would of course call the dr.

  • I was asking my doc about BH last week and she said it's totally normal to have a few "real" contractions a day, as long as it's not more than 6 in an hour.

  • It can be normal. Make sure you mention it to your doctor at your next check-up though.
