Hello ladies,
I got FP on Friday and am now gearing up for my 3rd IUI cycle. My first two IUIs were quite unpleasant -- my doctor had lots of trouble getting to my uterus, lots of pulling, prodding, bleeding, and discomfort. Before my first IUI, I read comments that it was no big deal, similar to a pap, took 5 minutes, etc, but this has not been my experience.
So, I am considering asking my doctor for some kind of prescription painkiller to take beforehand. What do you ladies think -- does this request seem appropriate, or am I being a big baby?

I've had two IUI's done now and that was the least painful part...I hate the monitoring- I find it very painful. Maybe the doc will do a better job this second time? Did you have a lot of cramping afterwards too, that would make it double the reason to ask for the painkiller...I see nothing wrong with asking.
Good luck!
It couldn't hurt to ask (pun not intended). I'm actually quite surprised that my IUIs haven't been painful since my HSGs were awful.
I'm sorry about AF arriving. I was really pulling for some BFPs this cycle.
hope you had a good weekend despite it.

This is just a thought, but for my wife's IUI that was mistimed (we did the IUI before her body was ready) it actually hurt her a lot. The other two times she was good to go. This may not be the case with you, but her cervix was not open very much because her body regardless of the meds was not ready to reproduce yet. Do you chart or otherwise know your body well enough to know if you are doing the IUI about the right time for your body?

Thanks for all the tips and advice. I think I will definitely ask for a Valium and see what happens. I do have to admit the advice to stretch made me laugh a bit as I imagined what would be involved in some kind of stretching that would affect the cervix.
My dr has not given me specifics on what is going on, only describing my cervix as "ornery" at the first IUI and "Fort Knox" at the second. I'm certainly more anxious this time around.
Hello, I am new to this whole process, but the doc wants to do an IUI this coming week. I am so thankful that you mentioned asking the doc about prescribing a valium because I tend to really clam up even during normal exams (internal ultrasound etc.) i think a valium would help out a lot!
Thank you and Best of Luck to all TTCers and also wish me some!!
