Two weeks on wed- ready to start exercising

I had a uncomplicated vaginal delivery and am very ready to start working out. I'm nursing but the lbs are not falling off like thy did with my other two wherei lost so much in the first two weeks. Is there a downside to working out too early? I feel like I need the energy boost too.

Re: Two weeks on wed- ready to start exercising

  • Do it if you feel ready!!  I went to the gym for the 1st time yest. & it was great.  I worked out til delivery so it was only 2 weeks off.. and SO much easier without the big belly!!  I did elliptical and rower for 45 mins.

  • I say if you feel ready go for it! I am itching to get back to exercising! I think I will give myself another week maybe and then I am gonna start at least walking again! There is no way I am waiting six weeks to get back to dance and yoga either!

  • I'm waiting at least until I stop bleeding.  I get sore after holding my toddler for too long or if I've been up and moving around a lot during the day.  I'm pretty sure I would be wrecked if I hopped on the treadmill at this point.  I did tear and have stitches though, so that is a big part of it.

The downside to working out too early is that there isn't any way to tell if your innards are healed yet.  You had an open wound for a while where the placenta detached and even if you didn't have stitches or something, doesn't mean that those wounds are healed yet.

I have no idea how much weight I've lost since we don't own a scale.  I plan on going back to Weight Watchers when DD is about 4 weeks, so I'll find out then.

  • Yeah, patella is right about the wound where the placenta detached.. what does your OB say about your working out this soon?  Mine said I can do my pregnancy gym routine, as it was low-impact (no running), as soon as I felt ok.

I had a 1st degree tear and some stitches, but I've stopped bleeding, and my recovery seems faster this time than with DS#1.  That said, my gym workout yesterday was pretty low-key.  Felt great to be moving again tho:)

  • I'm dying to, but I freaking start bleeding bright red again every few days so I'm trying to wait until that stops. It took awhile after DD, too, I'm apparently a slow healer.

  • I'm ready to as well. I'm still bleeding bright red at times though. My two week pp checkup is on Thursday. I hope I get the go ahead then.

  • I have been walking since the day I got home from the hospital. I think everyone is different though and just listen to your body!
  • I'm gonna start doing the 30 day shred today! I'll finish that and then move onto more intense stuff once I go to my 6 week checkup. I did the shred through my pregnancy so I'm not worried about it being difficult. Just the abs part.
