My husband and I are TTC and are thinking about names.
What we've come up with are:
Boy: Parker Augustus
Parker is his Grandmother's maiden name, and Augustus is a family name in my family.
Girl: Temperance Cordelia
ETA: Other choice is Temperance Elizabeth
Temperance has personal importance to me, but it would be too long to type out. Hubby just really likes Cordelia (and the Buffy reference).
What do you think? Even if its not your style, would you side eye these?
Re: Name Opinions
I wouldn't side eye Parker Augustus actually I don't mind this one at all.
Temperance I may side eye, I just cannot wrap my head around this name. I also do not like that the word "temper" is in there.
Cordelia I like though something I do not hear often.
Sorry, I don't care for any of these names. We probably have very different tastes in names.
It's nice that they have personal significance to you and your husband. However, I would caution you that when your child introduces his/herself, the stranger will only hear the name not the personal story behind it.
That said, they are all perfectly respectable names.
You get that "temper" isn't a bad thing, right? If the name were Badtemperance, I'd have a problem with it.

I do understand the definition of temper but unfortuantly I just automatically think temper tantrum in my head when I read the name. That's just me though.
Love Xander... and yes I see the Cordelia problem lol. If my cat weren't already named Willow... lol
Also, I see the "Temper" thing too, nn would probably be Tempe (Temp-ie) as a child and more formal just as Temperance as she got older.
Temperance is the part we're most hung up on. I adore it as a name, but DH wants to see a bit more of the public opinion on it.
I just had a laugh thinking of yelling "Bad Temper" though. :P
Love augustus...do not like parker at all
temperence i like as a middle name i think it is too much for a first name...i cringe when i hear cordelia
Carter Robert 7.18.08 | Brynn Sophia 5.24.10 | Reid Joseph 9.10.12 | Emerson Mae 1.27.14
Another choice is Temperance Elizabeth. Does the average middle name tame it a bit? lol
Me: 27 Dh: 35 Testing Begins 3/5/13
Six SA's show DH has low numbers across the board = severe MFI
Genetic testing for me = MTHFR+, also carrier for blood clotting disorder Otherwise all else normal
Dh's karotype= Normal!!
I definitely prefer Temperance Cordelia. If you're set on Temperance for the first name, go for it! Just don't spell it Tempyrance or anything. Haha. I'll bet the name will grow on anyone who isn't a fan to start with.

Parker is NMS but I like Augustus.
Temperance just seems like such a big name to me. I like it fine in the mn spot, but not sure how I feel about it as a first name.
I think Temperance Elizabeth is better than Temperance Cordelia, who does sound like a character in a romance novel.
Not a fan of Parker but, I love Augustus. Because Parker is a family name for you, I think I could get behind this combo.
I love Temperance. Either mn works.
I like Temperance Elizabeth and Temperance Cordelia (although I would prefer to see Temperance with shorter, simpler mn... but all the names are lovely).
I really like Augustus but Parker has never been my style. I am not typically a fan of "occupation" themed names.
ETA: Temperance is a virtue name and has nothing to do with "having a temper" (in fact, it points to the opposite). To have the virtue of temperance is to be a person of self-control and moderation. It's one of the most important virtues for developing a good character (sorry, my Religious Ed teacher side just came out. ). All that to say, it's name with positive connotations through and through.
I agree with all of this.
I want to thank all you ladies. I really received a lot of constructive information. Even those who didn't like the names personally were very respectful.
That said, we're rethinking our middle name choices. I never even considered that Temperance Cordelia could both be mistaken for television characters, and it is a bit much as a combo. Although I recognize that Bones is Temperance (and I love the show actually) it is so far from why I chose it, I didn't think about it that way. So, the mn Cordelia is probably a permanent no now.
To the lady who pointed out that Temperance is a virtue, that is more along the reason why I chose the name. A lot of gushy feelings just came up thinking about it. lol
I'd side eye Temperance, but only because it's a HUGE name. I's want to shorten it to Tempee, Tippy or Tilly?
I do like Cordelia which could be shortened to Coco.
(Disclaimer: I like nicknames.)
Personally, I don't like Temperance but I like Cordelia a lot and Elizabeth is alright. What about Cordelia Temperance, or Elizabeth Temperance?
For the boy, I like Parker Augustus
