Toddlers: 24 Months+

When does the repetitive speech stop?

DD is 2 years 4 months, and lately has been doing the thing where she repeats a phrase over and over.  I know this is totally normal toddler behavior.  I get that.  I promise.  I also can't wait for it to be over.  Please tell me it's a short-lived thing!

On the plus side, her language has exploded and it's amazing to hear her talk like a little person!

So how long til your LO stopped repeating a phrase 20x in a row?

  • Ds still does this occasionally. But it is much less now! Maybe once a day or once every other day.

  • my little guy does the same thing.........it drives me nuts!  don't get me wrong, i love how he is saying 4-5 word sentences now but sometimes he says the same sentence 20 times in a row......yikes;)  i am no help with telling you when it stops.  hopefully sooner than later.

  • I find my DD repeats things until I acknowledge or engage her in conversation. It's especially bad if I'm on the phone. She'll say the same thing over and over and over until I say OK or answer her.

This is exactly like DS. He usually wants me to repeat it, to acknowledge that I understand what he's saying. He's also decided to ask me "what's this" for like every picture in every book ever -  I think he's getting back at me for all the times I had him do that :-P - and won't move on until I say it (even if he knows what it is).

  • I haven't had my kids do this but at xmas they were obsessed w/ singing jingle bells to anyone who would listen...cute & all but when it continued into FEBRUARY it got very old... thankfully it did end though. I think it is a phase & like the others said, maybe repeat it, say good job and try to move on. GL!
  • OMG! Right there with you! DD is 2 years and 3 months and does this too. SO annoying! The other night it was "Momma, I want chippies and cheese" (nacho chips). She repeated it the entire 15 minute drive to her fathers office where I happily dropped her off for the night Surprise
  • My DS has been doing it too, but every time it's repeated he gets louder and louder. If we are in the car and he wants a snack it's "I want snack please, Mommy" over and over and until he's eventually screaming "SNACK PLEASE MOMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!" LOL! It's kind of hilarious, but yet not.
