Leaking Fluid?

I appologize if this question seems stupid, but since I am a FTM I am still new to all of this.

I am 32 weeks pregnant and the last few days I have had some extra discharge which I know can be common in the last trimester, but today it seems like watery, and sticky, but odorless and colorless its not a big amount, just a small amount here and there and today its had a little more of a mucousy type look.  Not like a yeast infection look but kinda of like a clear snot look....really sorry if thats TMI!

Could this be amniotic fluid?  We live 30 minutes away from the hospital i am delivering at, and with the rain storms here I was hoping one of you ladies might know if this might just be normal discharge or if it could be amniotic fluid slowly leaking out?  I see my OB monday but I didnt know if i need to go be seen this weekend or if this is something that is normal and i can just mention it to her monday?

Thanks again ladies, I really appriciate all the advice in advance!

Amniotic fluid would not be mucousy. BUT it could mix in with some mucous I guess. Etiehr way, if you had any doubt whatsoever then you need to go in whether it's raining or not. PPROM can be dangerous. We can't tell you what it is. Only a test can do that.

  • It sounds like your mucous plug which I've heard you can start losing some of it but it can grow back. It's a little early to lose it so I would put in a call to your OB.

  • I had the same thing happen with my last pg. call your ob, describe what you just said here, and they will tell you whether to wait or go to l&d. Mine was not amniotic fluid, there's a good chance yours isn't either....but better safe than sorry!

  • I agree with PP in the better safe than sorry route.  Either call your OB's after hours line or call the hospital and explain to them what it is going on.  They may tell you to go in & get checked out.

  • The L&D nurse told me - when in doubt, put on a pad. If you soak one, go to the hospital.

  • If this is a recurrent problem, use can use pH strips to tell if it's amniotic fluid or not.

  • Thank You ladies for all your advice.  We did call labor and delivery and the Dr on call said to put on a pad and if i soaked through that then to come in, but otherwise he thought it may just be some extra discharge thats normal in the 3rd trimester.  i have an OB check on tomorrow so my OB will do a full check on me tomorrow :-)
