I have completely mixed feelings about the appointment. Overall it was good, I guess. He's not concerned with us getting pregnant (since we've gotten PG 2 times in the past 15 months), he's more concerned with my ability to stay pregnant. He thinks I might have an LPD, which I've often wondered because of my short(er) LP and 2 C/P's. He is prescribing Prometrium (fun fun!) and running a few additional tests (AMH, Antiphospholipid Antibody, TSH, and Lupus Anticoagulant...or antibody...I forget what he said exactly).
What I liked:
1. I really, really appreciate that he listened to me and had respect for my knowledge of my own body. If I hadn't been charting and using OPK's and known that I consistently have an 11 (or less) day luteal phase, I don't think he would have been as ready to prescribe Prometrium.
2. I also like that he acknowledged my two c/p's and didn't downplay them like my OBGYN did.
3. Overall he was happy to answer all of my questions
What I didn't like:
1. He told us he wasn't that concerned about our (in)ability to conceive. The majority of his patients are 10 years older than us and they are the ones that have more serious issues. This may be true but I don't really care how old the majority of your patients are when DH and I are obviously having some difficulty getting/staying PG.
2. I asked how many cycles I would take the Prometrium before we moved on to something else, fully expecting him to say 3-4 cycles. When he said 8-9 cycles my jaw hit the floor! That will pretty much put us at 2 years TTC if we don't conceive in the meantime.
While I agree with him and respect that he doesn't just want to throw Clomid at me or start me on other drugs, I was kind of hoping for at least a shorter trial period on the Prometrium. At least we have SOME answers, but I feel like we're just stuck in a holding pattern of continuing TI and hoping that the Prometrium helps!
Re: Update from first RE appointment (long-ish)
Hmm.. Sounds like a pretty good appt overall. I see what you're saying about the 8-9 cycles. From what I've seen around here, and my own experience, it seems like 3-4 is pretty common. Maybe it's not set in stone? You could ask to revisit that if/when that time goes by. Maybe the prometrium will do the trick!
My new RE was going to just give me progesterone to start with as well, since I've never tried it, and I do O on my own. Even though my lp is consistently 14-15 days, it doesn't mean there couldn't be a problem. But once he looked through my cycle history, he decided to let me try Femara as well.
