Almost 33 weeks---Question

Hi Ladies, I'm just checking to see if anyone has gone through a similar situation and what the outcome was. I have been having mild BH since 20 weeks. This past Monday I was put on modified bed rest due to much stronger/ frequent BH. The dr hooked me up to the monitor and I was having BH every 3 to 4 minutes that were lasting a minute to a minute and a half long. As of Monday there was no cervical change she could tell from the outside. The BH have been like this since the Thursday before my appointment. BH continue to come regularly but vary between 3 and 7 minutes appart when I'm laying down and when I stand up or sit up I have constant tightening (extremely tight) but with no pain. I timed one yesterday and it was 20 minutes long (as long as my shower). It would start to loosen and then tighten right back up. I have had camping at night, but no real pain with any of the BH, just a little edge. I will be 33 weeks tomorrow. I was wondering if anyone has had BH this strong so early and what the outcome was? I know if he comes now that this is a "good" early to be, but I'm still concerned about going into labor due to having to go to a different Hospital and longer stay in the hospital for the baby. Any information that any of you have I'd be grateful to learn.

Re: Almost 33 weeks---Question

  • I will be 34 weeks on Tuesday.  I was on hospital bedrest for the past couple of weeks due to bleeding, placenta previa, and short cervix issues, and I just released last night after a good ultrasound on Friday morning.

When I was in the hospital, they were monitoring the baby's heartbeat and contractions on a daily basis.  I had an irritable uterus.  And they were some monitoring that had more contractions and some monitoring that had less contractions.  In the beginning, they put me on Nifedipine for my irritable uterus.  I think the dose of 60mg  two times a day was too much for me, and I eventually declined the dose due to side effects of feeling more depressed and a little drugged out.  When I had borderline bleeding episode while in the hospital on late night 4/13--early morning 4/14, I accepted 2 doses of 20mg Nifedipine--they were trying to stop the bleeding episode so they would not have to do a c-section.  I declined the later doses of 60mg Nifedpine.

The main reason that I am telling you this is that if they had any concerns about your contractions, then they would have put you on Nifedipine.  I just cannot tell you how many times that they wanted me to take this drug.  And I just had to make the best decision for myself.  They would also put you on the monitor if they have any concerns about your contractions.  One nurse told me that there is a difference from regular contractions and actual labor contractions.

At this point, I am more concerned about the length of my cervix, my water breaking, more bleeding, and of course being fully dialated.  And I have just decided to just let whatever is going to happen is going to happen.

  • I had BH's since I was about 28w and they did not change my cervix. At 31 I had real contractions due to dehydration from norovirus (did not change my cervix). I delivered my twins at 34w2d due to my son having dcels of his heart because the cord was wrapped around his belly. My cervix was still fully closed but 50% effaced at that time. I don't think its abnormal to have BH's in 3rd tri at all but definitely talk to your doc with your concern!!
