face twitching

For the past couple of hours the muscles in my right cheek have been twitching on and off. If I massage it it will go away but it comes back after awhile. Does anyone else have this?

Re: face twitching

  • How far along are you?  I'm at 7 weeks now, but when I was between 5-6, I had this horrible twitching in my right eye that lasted for a few days.  It was so bad it literally looked like there was something crawling under my eyelid (gross, I know).  I Googled some and didn't really get a concrete answer, but it looked like a lot of other women had weird twitching going on, too.  I'm sure it has to do with all the changes going on in your body and the stress of being preggers, but if you're concerned about it or it doesn't go away, talk to your doc.

  • I also had a terrible eye twitch at 4 & 5 weeks.  I was drinking one cup of coffee a day, thinking I just could not give it up.  But the twitch bothered me enough that I did an experiment and stopped the caffeine.  The twitching stopped.  I don't know if it was a coincidence or not, but it helped.

  • I really don't want to scare you, but when my sister was pregnant, she had Bell's Palsy. It started with facial twitching and numbness on one side. It could be worth asking your doctor about. I'm not sure if it can start as early as 12 weeks, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

A woman's life is nine parts mess to one part magic, you'll learn that soon enough...and the parts that look like magic turn out to be the messiest of all.
  • I wasn't drinking any caffeine, either, but I honestly think the stress of worrying 24/7 about every single thing I put in my body and what effects it might have ended up stressing me out.  Since I eased up on that and just cut out the biggies (lunch meat, nitrates, caffeine, high fructose corn syrup, and artificial coloring), I'm stressing a lot less.  It could be you're stressed some, which is normal with pregnancy.  Just try to make sure you're making time for yourself to relax and chill out.  But definitely mention it to your doc if it doesn't go away or if you're really worried.  GL!
