Preemies

Anyone else IUGR micropreemie?

My Avery was born at 29.6 weeks and was 1 month IUGR (behind in growth) at 1 lb 10 oz. I was wondering if anyone has experience or is in the same boat.

Re: Anyone else IUGR micropreemie?

  • I had an IUGR baby but not micro, she was 3lb4oz at 34w2d so it was 4th percentile. My girl did very well. She does have some issues (reflux and hernia in her groin that will be repaired by surgery) but she is a really sweet girl and very determined especially when it comes to eating <:

My IUGR story is similar- baby born at 35w0d at 3lbs 8oz (approx 4th percentile). She had a 2-week feeder/grower stay in the NICU.

Good luck with your tiny darling!

  • My nugget was born at 34 weeks and weighed 2lbs 12ozs.  She is still really small - tipping the scales at 15lbs at one year - but other wise she is a total rockstar.  She spent 23 days in the NICU as a feeder grower and we sent home the minute she hit 4lbs.  She hasn't had reflux or other issues, but she is a picky eater and would rather do other things over eating.  While I am concerned about her weight gain, the pediatrician is happy that she is following her own curve - albeit inches from the the norm Wink
  • Hiiiii!

So good to see you here! I remember you because we were going through similar things. I had my baby boy on March 14th at 29w1d. He weighed 1lb 11oz.

5 weeks later (can you believe it?!) he weighs 3lbs 4oz. He had a rough start eating and I could tell the drs were concerned about NEC.  Since he wasn't eating enough he needed a central line put in to continue his TPN. Then he ended up with a staf infection from that but luckily it was only skin surface and never entered blood stream. Still, we had to stop feeding which put him behind a bit again. For the past 3 weeks though everything has been going very well. I'm so, so, SO grateful.

This NICU journey is hard core. Emotional roller coaster is an understatement. Sending positive t&p's that you and your little one have a smooth and easy road here.

Wow! I can't believe how close our babies are. I'm glad that you guys are having such a long batch of good days! I am hoping that Avery starts picking up her growth so they can try to progress her feedings again. Thinking of you and hope to talk to you more. Big Smile

I am amazed with your LO. I read your story when I was pregnant and knew I'd go early, because my girl was measuring small at 25w. Even though I made it a lot farther than I thought I would your daughter gave me great hope during my pregnancy! What a beautiful girl!

  • My guy was born at 31w3d and was just above the micro category (Like 126 gram over).

    He's a beefy 19lbs and turns 1 in 23 days!

He didn't have a ton of issues in the NICU, but did struggle with feeding.  He really struggled when they added human milk fortifier to his breast milk.  They tried to add the 4 calorie many times and he'd brad, destat, and would have other pukey/reflux issues.  He did okay on the 2 calorie.

When he was discharged we had normal stuff: ROP exams, checks at the follow-up clinic (he was on a monitor because he had bradies).  At his 2 month check they found a hernia and he had surgery at 3 months.

It is hard having a baby in the NICU.  Looking back, nearly 1 year later, it is really amazing to see how far he has come.  Hugs to you.  Just try to focus on taking care of yourself, pumping, and getting as much time with your LO as allowable.

  • DD had iugr (due to pre-e/HELLP). She was born at 2lb, 3oz at 31w1d.

She had a very uneventful stay in the nicu (was there for just shy of 6w). She had breathing support for a day. Other standard preemie issues: anemia, jaundice, feeding issues.

But, outside of the nicu, no issues to speak of. She's about 16lbs now, so on the smaller size.

She learned how to BF around 5m, and is now a boob addict.

  • One of my twins was borderline IUGR born at 28w4d.  At just barely 2lbs, 13" he came out a little heavier than they were estimating (we were expecting 1lbs 12oz).  One of his largest hurdles in the NICU was his lungs.  He spent about 3 weeks on the vent, a little time on cpap and was able to come off O2 nasal cannula right before he came home.

Even from the NICU, he seems to do most things just a little behind his identical brother.  He's still smaller but he's got a big personality and tells you exactly how he feels.  We've had some struggles with his weight gain but he's on track now with adding some neosure fortified bottles.  At 9 months he's 12lbs 14oz and just as healthy as can be.

  • My son was born two weeks ago ( 4/6/12) at 34 weeks 1 day. He weighed a whopping 3lbs. He had fallen off the charts in growth. It's two weeks later, and he finally gotten back up to birth weight plus 2ozs. He currently 3lbs 2ozs. He has a hole in his heart & they are monitoring it closely. We are hoping it closes by the time he is a year, but it's not looking so good as of right now. they are thinking he will be in the nicu well past his due date, which is may 17th, so basically into june. He is a slow grower. He eats about 19 ccs of formula right now. Just try to keep your head up, I know its tough. good luck & I wish you guys the best of luck.
My little pumpkin was born at 34weeks, weighing 3lbs, due to severe IUGR & Unexplained Placental Insufficiency. He spent 49 days in the NICU. Lilypie Premature Baby tickers imageimageimageimageimageimage
  • My LO was 1lb 2ozs. She has had a rough start and has some medical issues (chronic lung diease and pulmonary hypertension). She spent 117 days in the NICU (alot longer than her two sisters) she had a PdA ligation and almost lost her during recovery. A month after she came home she ended up back in the NICU where they transfered her to the PICU (it was touch and go there as well). She has been home since Oct and has been doing great. She is 2+lbs bigger than her sisters both of whom were over 2lbs at birth. She is still on o2 and is behind meeting her milestones but she is a fiesty little booger and I am sure will be running circles around her sisters soon.
