Membrane sweep and mucous plug question

I just had my membranes swept.  Since my midwife was able to force her finger through my cervix, does that mean the mucous plug is no longer there?  Sorry if this is a dumb question.  I just want to know if I'm eagerly searching the toilet bowl for a bloody slug each day in vain.

Re: Membrane sweep and mucous plug question

  • My dr did my first sweep at 38w on a wednesday.  She said i was barely 1cm...I lost my plug that Friday.  Yesterday was my 39w appt and she did another sweep and said I was still at a 1. :/  So I didn't lose my plug until after she had done the sweep...and i have to say, there was no way to miss it!  LOL...it was more than I was expecting!

  • Possibly. When my OB did it at 38 weeks (I was at 3cm) she told me that I'd probably already lost my MP. (No idea how I could've missed it....) I've still been checking ever since, and nothing. So, it's possible that it already came out in pieces. She did it again Wednesday (I'm at 4 cm) and still no MP, so your guess is as good as mine. I've stopped expecting to see it:)
  • Exactly what PP said. I had the sweep then lost my plug a day later. It's impossible to miss it.
  • I had my sweep yesterday too. I was 1cm, but she said she stretched me to 2cm (hense why I almost punched her in the face). How are you all feeling after yours? I'm really crampy, had lots of painful contrax yesterday, and i've been spotting gross brown mucous since and very crampy. It all seems to get worse when i'm standing/walking/moving around.
