Why are Gliders so UGLY!! Need help

Anyone have reccomendations for gliders that are not hideous and look like they are from the 80's?

  • I guess it depends on how much you're willing to spend. There are beautiful fully upholstered gliders out there that look like regular living room chairs, but they usually run over $300. I've had my eye on this one from Target:

  • Budget?

We went for a La-Z-Boy glider so it's pretty much just a recliner that glides. We'll use it in our family room long after the babies are done using it.

  • The 'Best' brand gliders (at furniture stores) have lots of options. When we got ours, there were about 15 design options, each with 5-10 finish options, then we had over 200 fabric samples to choose from.

Being able to select the finish and the fabric toned down the 80's look and made it fit more with our decor. Plus, it's super comfortable and has held up beautifully!

Yes - some of them are VERY 80s... Wink Just look past those.

  • I'm getting one that actually looks like a chair and ottoman but glides and swivels. It's at buybuybaby and with a coupon will be about $650. It's super comfy. There are also tons of fabric swatches.

  • BRU carries a few that are decent looking (and so comfortable), and they come in a variety of colors.  I found very similar ones at Walmart for a lot less.  Originally I was going to just go with a classic rocking chair, and just add my own cushioning - but while out shopping last week I sat in one of the gliders at BRU while waiting to speak with the sales rep and I didn't want to get up - was so comfy!

  • I agree that Best Chairs gliders are amazing.  And you don't have to go to a furniture store to get them- Buy Buy Baby carries them, with all of the upholstery options.  I think the one I looked at was around $500, but you can use the 20% off Bed Bath and Beyond coupons on them too. You might have to go into a store for one though, cause I didn't see them show up on the website.  They look like a living room club chair but are actually swivel gliders.

  • When I had DS almost 3 years ago, I got a Dutailier and matching ottoman as a baby shower gift. I LOVE it! We still use it! I will be using it for this baby as well. However, I hate that the color doesn't match. Last night (good timing, huh!) I found a blog that gave you step by step instructions on how to recover the glider with the fabric of your choice. Lots of people find there gliders online for much less than what my MIL spent on ours new. You can always check Craigslist. Here is the blog if you are interested!

    Good luck!

  • We've actually narrowed it down to two and they're both from Wal-Mart. We can't afford to spend upwards of $500 on a chair right now, so I was so glad to find these. They got pretty good reviews and I like that there are different slipcover options.

This is the other one that I like; it's more modern than the wooden gliders/rockers I've seen.

  • I'm not a fan of the gliders, at all. I have my eye on this rocker/recliner at Target:

It would be a splurge, but we're not spending a ton on a crib or dresser/changing table, and we can use it in our living room once the baby gets bigger. So it's worth the investment, IMO.

  • We got this one in a light tan color- it's a swivel glider. It was more than I could have ever imagined spending on a chair for the nursery but we decided it's more of an investment than a purchase. Plus it was a gift from DH's parents. I cannot wait for it to come!
