I like ophelia, i would never use it, but i like it.
Probably this. It's a guilty pleasure name, for sure. Perhaps a little too unusual for me to use, though. I don't want my child to be one of 5 in his/her grade, but neither would I want him/her to go through life NEVER meeting another person with their name.
I really like it, but it's too matchy with DD's name so it's off the table.
I don't think it's any more "look at me, I'm well read" than Holden, Atticus, Harper or many of the names my friends have used in recent years. And besides, what's wrong with being well read?
I went to school with an Ophelia and I don't remember her getting picked on for her name. It's NMS, but there am many more names I'd shake my head at over Ophelia.
I know someone with the name Oneilia. While it's not my style, I wouldn't assume she's been made fun of a whole lot for it. Ophelia isn't my style either, but I can tolerate it a lot better than a lot of the other names I see around here.
I don't care for it because I'd never name a daughter after a girl who kills herself over a boy. That's where my mind goes.
She doesn't kill herself over a boy. She kills herself because her former lover killes her father (accidentally of course, he thought he was killing someone else).
I worked with an older woman named Ofelia and she never said she had any negative connotations with her name, but maybe children aren't as cruel in Mexico.

There is absolutely no equivalent of "Oh feel ya" in Spanish and furthermore, the pronunciation isn't even "feel" in the middle in this name in Spanish, so of course it wouldn't be open to the teasing the OP suggests.
I still think the OP teasing is kind of a stretch, nonetheless. People can make fun of any name if they think hard enough.

Oh, nothing! Sorry, that came out badly. Gah, the last thing I'd want to imply is that I'm against people using scholarly or literary names, when I'm a total academic nerd myself. I was defending the name. I just wouldn't use it because it's not my personal taste. OF COURSE there's nothing wrong with being well read, it's more that to me this name suggests less that the person IS well-read and more that the person is TRYING TO SEEM well-read, if you get the distinction. It's like a name that a high school senior would pluck out of her required reading to try to sound smart. But that's just my own (perhaps idiosyncratic) reaction to it, and one reason why I personally wouldn't choose it. I don't think it's a flammable name in the least.
I like Ophelia. How would a kid form a sentence with "oh FEEL ya" anyway? That's not a common expression or anything...

Re: The kids are going to have a field day with this one
This.
This.
But yet, lots of people love Juliet.
I wouldn't use it myself (a little too "look at me, I'm well read), but I don't think Ophelia is a bad name.

Me too. Or rather, DH would never let me use it.
I think its really pretty, but I'd never use it.
A girl I went to high school with named her daughter Odelia.
Baby BOY is due May 23, 2014!
I'd never use it because of the tragic character, but there are many names out there that are much worse.
Same here.

I personally wouldn't use it but don't think its a terrible name by far... I think its much better than some of the more trendier names out there
I think the OP is referring to the possibility of breaking the name down to, "Oh FEEL ya... " It could happen. Kids can be cruel.
Agreed. And it's WAY better than a lot of names out there.

Ophelias give feedback!
I personally like it, but I don't think I would use it, simply because I like other names more.
Ditto.

Hiro (spelled this way, pronounced "hero") is a legitimate Japanese name. It's a boys' name, though :-/
