Cloth Diapering

newbie and 2u2 stash question.

I am currently looking into making the switch over to cloth. My son is currently 9 months old and I am pregnant with #2,  due in September. I am trying to get an idea of how big of a stash I would need to cloth diaper a one year old and a new baby full time.

From what I have been reading, I figured 12-16 diapers will be needed for my son and 18-24 for the new baby in order to wash every other day.  Does that about sound right? What if I use OS diapers. Would I be able to get away with less and use them for both after #2 hits a certain weight?

Any suggestions/advice is appreciated. . TIA.

Re: newbie and 2u2 stash question.

  • If you plan on washing every other day then I would recommend at least 20 for your older child and 24-36 for the baby. I wash every other day with DD2 and she has about 24 diapers, she goes through at least 8 a day and that gives me time to run a load and put them away before she is completely out. A newborn goes through 10 + diapers a day if not more so the recommendation is around 36. It's been awhile since I actually looked at what I had in my stash but I think I have around 32 to get us through. After the baby gets to around 13lbs it's definitely possible for them to share a stash, you just may need to adjust the rise for each baby, and you're still looking at 30+ diapers
  • I had 24 OS for my oldest and 36 for my youngest.  Your newbie won't be able to wear OS right away.  If you want to do it on the cheap, I would get prefolds for the newbie and then they can share the OS once the baby is bigger.  When my youngest was into OS, I think I had 40 or 42 for the both of them.
