Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

When will this be over!

I went in March 30th and found out I had a missed miscarraige so March 31st I took Cytotec to pass the baby.  The baby passed April 1st.  On April 5th I went to the doctor since I was still bleeding.  The doctor said my uterus lining was still really thick and gave me more pills.  I passed some more tissue and stopped bleeding on April 10.  So I figured I had passed everything and I could start TTC again soon.  Today I got a call from the nurse stating my HCG levels have not fallen enough and I have to get an ultrasound to see if I have remaining tissue and they may have to do a D&C to get everything.  Augh!! I just want to be done miscarrying already so I can start healing physically and emotionally.  Also, the doctor said I had to get in STAT.  What is the harm in having a higher HCG and tissue remaining in me?

I am just so frustrated because I thought AF was on her way and I could start TTC again but its just another set back.  I was having a really good week and this set me back.  I feel almost like I did when I first found out.  And all the uncertainty.  I probably won't know until Monday what the next step is!!

Re: When will this be over!

  • If your hcg levels aren't dropping, it means you could be retaining tissue, and that can lead to an infection and, if it's left untreated, that could affect your future fertility. I don't want to scare you, but it's not just a minor thing, and if your doctor is telling you that it looks like you need a D&C then you should take it seriously.

I'm very sorry you're going through this and hope that it ends soon so you can grieve and move on!

  • High HCG levels could indicate pregnancy tissue elsewhere, too (i.e., ectopic).  It's probably not, since you seem to have passed the tissue from your uterus.  But it's better to be safe than sorry.  You'll get there!
