Cloth Diapering

Better, but not great. Re: de-funking

So, I attempted to de-funk my microfiber inserts today.  I did a rock n soak while I worked, rinsed that, then did a funk rock soak in a hot tub of water, rinsed that, then put them in my washer for a cold cycle, no soap; then a heavy duty cycle with 2T  RnG with an extra rinse, then another cold cycle with extra rinse and no detergent.

I still have some lingering stinkies on a few inserts-some worse than others.  Can it sometimes take more than 1 soak to get it all out??  I only just switched to cloth a month ago, but clearly my wash routine wasn't working.  I hope that I can get this figured out.  My daughter has been in disposables since Sunday because our washer was out of commission. She's getting some redness in her diaper area again, which I haven't seen since she started cloth. I am hoping that the Rockin Green works for me.

I am trying not to get frustrated, but I'm starting to.  Should I try bleach next?  Or RLR?  Or would getting them outside to sun/air dry help??

  • Do these have snaps or elastic on them?

  • All of my Kawaii's have snaps.  I have 2 b genius 3.0's and those are Velcro.
  • I remember from your last post you use Free & Clear detergent right?  That very well may be the problem.   Do you have an ammonia smell or a barnyard smell?  If its ammonia, Get some RLR and add 1/4 cup chlorine bleach to the load (wash on heavy duty).  I'm told that is the "Ultimate" for removing Funk.   If its a barnyard smell, try tiny bubbles or Charlies Soap (if you use charlies and you have hard water you need to use calgon with it - oh its not soap but acutally detergent, they just named it soap).

Charlies and tiny bubbles are  really good detergents and I use them on our clothes too.  I have extremely sensitive skin and I haven't had a reaction to either one of them. - but I noticed they both get my diapers cleaner than Tide does.  I have little to no shadows or skid marks with my washing routine.  I attribute it to the detergent.  I've got samples of Tiny bubbles and quite a few packets of RLR, and I'm feeling the love today, so PM me your address if you want and I'll send you some.   Nothing is more frustrating than messed up diapers

  • I'm still trying to find a cure for MF stink - and honestly, I constantly give up and bleach them.  It fixes it for a little while.  I'm still messing around with stuff to figure out the cure as to why it's happening though.  I actually just had a heart to heart with my CD lady at her house yesterday, and though I am in LOVE with my RnG, she said it didn't work for her with our water.  She gave me some samples to play around with, so I'll see how they do.  I just soaked and washed with Tiny Bubbles, I'm hoping that would work.

I'm still using RnG for my clothes though, dang it.  I love that stupid detergent.
