Starting to really like...

Layla/Leila

Any thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

I think I like it more than Lyla

Re: Starting to really like...

  • I like Lilah more (with that spelling), but Layla and Leila are nice too. They're all pretty similar...
  • I like Leila better than Layla.

  • I like Layla (I admit, I like it because of the association with Clapton), but it seems like it's getting pretty popular. I hear it a lot now.

I much prefer Leila, pronounced Lee-la (and, yeah, that's probably because I'm a Futurama fan, lol :P)

  • I like Layla. It was (one of many) top contenders for DD, and my husband is still a big fan.

Are you familiar with the Eric Clapton song? That's probably the most common association people will have with it.

  • I pronounce them differently. I have a friend named Leila and she goes by LEE-la. And I prefer that name.

    I'm over Layla.

  • My favorite "version" of the name is Laila pronounced like Layla.  Although SIL and my cousin both claimed Lila for future DDs so most likely Laila will be out.
  • I'm partial to Layla for obvious reasons.  :)  We barely came to an agreement on the name Layla for a girl (we were Team Green) before she arrived, so I didn't even think about the different spellings of the name. But, I think they are all nice (Layla, Leila, Lyla).

  • I like Lilah a little better than Layla.  Both of these names were actually on our list for awhile.
  • I love Layla, way more than Lyla.

  • It's NMS but I guess the problem I have is there are SO many similar names (as evidenced by the replies thus far). Collectively they are overdone, especially lately. I don't hate the name but am just a little tired of the whole group.

  • I like Lilah or Lyla...that is our 2nd place/choice if we have a girl :)

I have been calling my baby Bean so if we named her Lyla it would be Lyla Bean haha! (Nickname of course!)

I think its a gorgeous name though, means Lilac

  • I really don't like any version of Leila, Lila, etc. because I never know how to pronounce it. Way too confusing, which would be soooo annoying as a parent or your LO.

  • I love Layla. I though about it for a while, but our dogs are Lily and Lola. We can't have a Layla, Lily, and Lola. lol

    This exactly!

  • when naming my children i always thought about the names i was teased in elementary school. as my name was not as issue as it was just plain diana  i did get called freckel face strawberry as my hair and my complection. i hated it.  so when my kids were born i wanted to give them common names that someone would not tease them. also i was glad in school when the teacher called my name and the other diane answered. the other thing is everyone one a pencil and a cup  and that kind of stuff from disney land.    my girls names are jennifer and amy. but they got teased terrible because our last name was ross. well  they would call them ross dress for less. a clothing store. we lived in a very ritzy neighborhood where everything was judge by brand name. i asked my daughter what the kids name was that was teasing her. and she said something hanes. and this sounds so immature but when its your kids you will do anything to stop there pain. i told her to call him hanes underwhere    . that did stop that for her.   i know all the names the different kids would get called and they were not nice. this is in elementary school. so if you name your child a name . think of what it ryrmes with or  what it could be associated  with.  i can see the boys now saying lay la    i   want to lay .... you get it.  and this is what they do in elementary school . really and it does not stop there either.  i hate to bust your bubble   .  i hope this stops her from any pain  un due.  congrats on your baby girl. i could be wrong. but i am usually right about  people dumb things.
  • My name is Laila (pronounced like Layla) and I absolutely LOVE it!! I am the only Laila that I know, and I always get compliments on my name when I meet people.  I just wanted to let you know that I have never dealt with any of the teasing that the person above me posted. The only thing that ever bothered me as a kid is sometimes people would pronounce it wrong, but it seems to be much more popular now then it was when I was little. Anyway, it's a great name! :)
