    It's my cat's name, and I will just say, many people hear "ruby"... this could be because it is an ambiguously gendered animal, haha.

     

     For a human, it seems incomplete to me. : maybe as a nn for Rudolph?

    I was actually really good friends with a guy named Rudy in HS, short for Rudolph, so I have a really positive association with the name. It doesn't hurt that he is also drop dead gorgeous and one of the nicest guys I know!

    My DH is Rudy so I like it (and so does he); his mom loved an itaian actor: Rodolfo Valentino, but didn't like Rodolfo as a name, so she named him just Rudy

    The name is not something I would use but I sure like Rudy way better than Rudolph (the red nose reindeer) or Rodolfo
