Baby Names

Thought we were set on our girls name..help?

So we initially had decided on Lucy Anne for a name. It has great meaning to us being named after both grandmas and flows really well. I even stopped looking at names.

But today I heard the name Emilia with the nn Emmie. I immediately stopped and thought oh my gosh I LOVE that.

Our other girls name is Scarlett and I think Emilia Scarlett is adorable.

Which do you prefer and why?

(ps our boys name is Henry Miles)

Re: Thought we were set on our girls name..help?

  • I prefer Lucy Anne. Not only does it have significance to you, but I just love the name Lucy. Emilia is nice, but feels a bit more "common" to me, especially with the nn Emmie. Emma and Emily are soooo popular! I feel like Lucy is still a classic, pretty, feminine name, but she won't be one of 5 in her class. Whereas she's bound to have other Emmas and Emily's wherever she goes!
  • I prefer Lucy Anne as well.

Are your grandmothers living? If so, think how much it will mean to them. You'd never regret that name, it's adorable.

Emilia nn Emmie is cute, too, but as PP pointed out, it's going to blend right in with the 17,000 Emmas she will know in her lifetime.

I love Lucy. Our girls name is also after my 2 grandmothers :)

    GL! Great choices.

  • Thanks ladies! I guess I didnt think of the variants like Emily and Emma. I still loveee Lucy, and I guess I worded it wrong. The baby would be named after both me and DHs moms. So the baby's grandmas. Thank you for giving me these perspectives!

  • Lucy Anne. It has significant to you. Amelia, which is similar to Emilia, is incredibly popular right now.

  • I like both.  I think I'd choose Lucy over Emilia though as the name Amelia/Emilia is gaining popularity.

  • Although I like Emmie, I think that Lucy and Henry go really well together. I am also always in favor of family names.

  • Emilia Scarlett is a lovely name, but I think Lucy Anne is a much better choice. I love the significance and I think there's going to be a lot of girls in this generation who go by Ellie, Emmy, or Evy.

Emmie is cute, but Lucy Anne is a classic. I love it. Are you going to call her Lucy Anne or just Lucy?

I was just thinking about that today. Im not sure! LOL Originally her name was going to be Lucy Mae and we were going to call her that, but since MILs middle name is Anne we decided to go with that as a middle name instead.

  • Love Lucy Anne, I do not like Emilia or any form of that name.
  • I was at work tonight and was reading off the doctors' names (work in a medical setting), and there was a Dr. Lucy LastName. It immediately struck me how much I love the name... even on a doctor! (I didn't expect that as I used to think Lucy was "too cute" and girlish). So I have to vote Lucy Ann. Great name.
  • Love the name Emilia with the NN Emmie. I say this!

  • Lucy Anne. I love the meaning it has for you, and it feels more timeless. I think there will always be other names you'll like, but you have to pick one and stick with your guns.

  • I really dont' think you can go wrong!  I love Lucy Anne, but I must admit I prefer the Emilia Scarlett.  That is ADORABLE!  Love Emmie too!

Good Luck, you can't go wrong! That's a tough call!
