2yo randomly speaking in gibberish

DS (who just turned 2 earlier this month) has a great vocabulary. He is very verbal, knows lots of words, can string together sentences of up to 5-7 words, etc.

Over the last couple weeks, he has suddenly been saying random "words." For example, he keeps saying "pop pop" for some reason, he has been randomly saying "die" over and over, or replacing words to songs he knows with "die" and just other random, short sounds. Anyone else's kid go through a phase like this?

  • Yep, my DD does this all the time.  She has a great vocabularly as well and still makes words up!

  • My DD did this too. Totally being serious here, but we had her baptized right around the same age and she completely stopped doing it. She didn't say "die" but she was doing this weird growl under her breath and then she'd babble weird words; she has had an impressive vocabulary since she was very young, so this was weird.

DH and I are not overly religious, and do not belong to a church. We thought it was the right decision to have her baptized. It may have been a strange coincidence that it all stopped around the age of 2.

  • I forget what it is called but is is normal developmental.  When ds was being test for speech delays they always asked if he did that and it was good that he did.
