Baby Names

Classic boy names

Our last names starts with "S" and DH wants to avoid first names that end in "s". So many classic boy names end in "s" like James, Charles, Thomas, Nicholas, etc.. so I would love some suggestions of classic boy names that don't end in "s"! Thanks! :)

  • Honestly, I think it depends on the last name.   We have a Charles and our last name is Sch____.  Doesn't bother me at all since it is a slightly different sounding S word and they don't run together at all.

Now my name is Suzanne Sch____, which is NOT a great combo.  Makes me sound drunk if I say it too quickly!  HA.

As for other names, I'd suggest looking through a list of Religious or Catholic Saints names.  Even if you're not religious or Catholic, there are tons of great, traditional names in there...

    Nathan, Benjamin, Timothy, Ethan, etc.

The "s" thing is totally my DH. It doesn't bother me, but he won't even consider it. It's kinda funny though because his father is Douglas and it hasn't scarred him ;)

We are Christians and we would love to use a Biblical name.

ETA: I love your DS's name!

  • if you find a name you like but it ends in "S" then you could always try and add on to the name by adding "son", "ton", "an" ,"in", etc.

Like Charleston, Thomasin,  Nicholason, etc. Good luck

Thanks!  We've had nothing but positive reactions to it.  Henry is DH's middle name, plus it was my Great grandfather and DH's grandfather's names.  Lots of history there.

There are so many non s-ending names to choose from.. I'm sure you can reach a compromise.  I always loved Mitchell and Matthew, too, but they are both already used in my family.
