Melatonin

Has anyone ever used it?  Just curious, it has been recommended to me by our ped. and want some other views, stories or opinions.  My LO does not sleep!  He has not for almost a year.  He is 4 and has bags under his eyes.  We have tried sleep charts, honey, warm milk, books, music, bath, massage, stickers, fruit sancks, "shadow spray", a Tot Clock, everything UNDER the MOON!!!!!  He doesn't usually fall asleep until 12 and wakes up at 6!!! Thoughts?

Re: Melatonin

  • Melatonin was a life saver for us!  We used it with my younger DD for a bit when she was going through an awful phase of not sleeping for months.  Right now we are on our 3rd week of no Melatonin and she's been doing really well, she had a rough night the other night but not nearly as bad as it used to be.  My advice is go for it!

  • It is a natural chemical made by your brain to  relax your body and tell it its time to go to sleep. I take it when not pregnant to help me sleep because I have a difficult time sleeping for more than 3 hours at a time without it. I have never heard of a child taking it but that doesn't mean anything. You can buy it at any store that sells vitamins and supplements. He might have a chemical imbalance that has his natural levels askew and this could help to supplement it. :) Hope that helps GL

  • Our pedi told us to try it as well and it works amazing!!! Our son is 2 1/2 and has been using it for a few months now. He sleeps better and wakes up happier than ever before. It will most likely work for your LO :)
