So I have been reading the boards off and on now but this is my first time to post anything. My husband and I have recently decided that we were ready to try and have a baby. I am 34 and he is 35. So I went to my OBGYN (my exam was normal) she decided it would be best if I had a sonogram (no ovarian cysts or uterine fibroids I have a past history of having both in my early 20's) and everything was fine. She then had me do a 3 and 21 blood test done because of my age. I found out I have plenty of eggs but I am not ovulating. Her next suggestions was I take Clomid but she wanted me to lose 20lbs first. So far I am down 4lbs. I am just wondering and I had even asked the nurse practitioner should I get an HSG first before I even start  to think about the Clomid. She said I could and I asked was it possible that I could ovulate after I have lost the weight she said yes. I am just  frustrated at what my next step should be should I wait until I lose the weight and have the blood work done again to see if I  have ovulated before I start taking the Clomid or have the HSG test done. If anyone has experienced this I am curious about what your opinion is and what you did.  I think what upset me the most recently was someone that we know just got pregnant and she didn't even really have to try and I foresee a struggle for me. So I guess that is why I am so upset and depressed about the situation I just don't let my husband know how much it really upsets me.

Re: New and Frustrated

  • I guess it depends on how long you have been trying. I believe at 34 the general idea is to only try for 6 months before getting medical assistance. If you haven't been trying for 6 months yet I would suggest you continue trying to lose weight until those 6 months are up and then see the dr. Also, if your insurance covers it I would say go to a fertility specialist and not your OB for treatment. All of the above is just my opinion...you may want to try the Infertility board or TTC after 35. Surely they won't care that you're only 34. :) Good luck!
