Can't Stop Scratching!!!!

For those of you who were not blessed with fantastic genetics and have stretch-mark city increasing in population on your belly every day - how are you relieving the itchiness?  I think I've tried every Palmers product out there and cocoa butter and all it does is make my skin feel greasy and nasty and then ten minutes later I want to rip off a few layers of skin - I'm afraid I'm going to have to add some no-scratch mittens for myself to my registry lol!  Any tips?

Re: Can't Stop Scratching!!!!

  • Not to scare you but one of my friends was very itchy durin her pregnancies an I had something to do with her liver! So yo might want to bring it up to your OB!

  • Mine itch too just my stretch marks. Some are more sensitive then others too.  =(  It sucks! I just keep using the cocoa butter and hoping it will stop! Most of mine are on my belly and some near my legs and my hips. I have a painful one near my belly button that the babies keep kicking!

I don't know how far along you are but someone else did post on here something about itching in her third trimester and it was something serious .. they had to induce her and deliver the baby right away. I can't remember what it was though. If it's just your stretch marks itching though then its probably just from the stretch marks!

  • The scary condition that makes you itch is called cholestasis, it affects your liver. BUT it typically is itching in your hands and feet.

The itching in your stretch marks could be something called PUPPPs. I just developed it in the past few weeks, and am now covered in hives all over my belly, arms, legs, hips, butt..... it's miserable. BUT it's not dangerous to the babies.

Bottom line, I would check with your doctor ASAP just to rule out the scary one, and maybe get some relief if it is PUPPPs, before yous spreads like mine did.

    Good luck!

  • I've had a terribly itchy belly (and boobs!) my whole pregnancy, and the only thing that's given me solid relief is Earth Mama, Angel Baby Stretch Oil. It's not incredibly greasy, and smells very nice.

  • Definitely check with you doc. I had cholestasis - it primarily adfects the hands and feet but I itched everywhere! Better to be safe.

  • I'm only 22 weeks along and the only thing itchy is my stretch marks on my belly - there are a couple that are really bad.  I will check with my doc just in case it is something more serious!
