Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Anyone still have bumpers on LO's crib?

DD is almost 8 months.  We started sleep training a couple weeks ago & it'd going very well for both night time and naps.  But now that she spends more time in her crib the bumpers have become an issue.

We have the breathable bumpers.  But this morning while I was snoozing till the late hour of 6am (DD was up a 5:30 but just playing in her crib & chattering to herself), I noticed DD on the video monitor playing with the bumper and untie the tie in the middle front slat and promptly put it in her mouth.

That was the end of snoozing and the bumpers.  I took them out this morning.   My mom is watching her today & said she only got a 45 minute nap because her legs kept getting stuck in the slats!

Is anyone still using bumpers?  Does anyone think I should have kept them on and just tied them tighter?

TIA!

  • If she's used to having them in, I would just tie them tighter. We still haven't put our bumpers in, but I'm considering it since she does get caught in the rails sometimes. Ours aren't breathables, so I probably won't do it.

  • I still have the regular bumpers in our crib.  So far no stuck legs or face plants.  She doesn't get around much yet though.  I have mine tied in a knot so I don't know how she'd untie them.

  • eh, my kids chew on tags on toys. I wouldn't worry about the bumper tie any more than that. We have the breathables on and it saves their limbs from getting stuck. they move around a LOT.
  • Our breathable bumpers secure with velcro.  LO is very active in the crib and had got her arms and legs stuck before.  These bumpers are great and she can't unfasten them.

  • We have used the regular bumpers from the start.  The ties are so short and tight I doubt be will ever even notice them. If he does, he could only really pick at them which I wouldn't care about.

  • We have the breathable ones and used them for both kids. The tie is on the outside when installed right, so it's hard to them to reach. I have it knotted, not in a bow, so they can't untie it. Even if they did, I wouldn't really worry about them playing with it ,even in their mouth. Like PP said, my kids have both loved chewing on tags of toys/stuffed animals, it's not really that different.

  • Our breathable uses velcro just like PP.. I have noticed this week that she is propping her legs on the top of it and playing with it.. My husband is Mr worry wart and is now worried she's propping her legs on it(her foot was stuck in the slat above the bumper the other day).. If we didn't have it, she would probably get stuck all the time though!
