Calgon vs RLR

Are Calgon and RLR the same thing?  I was looking online to see if there's a store I can go to in my area to purchace RLR and I saw a post saying that Calgon and RLR are the same thing which got me thinking.

Re: Calgon vs RLR

  • I find that RLR is stronger than Calgon in my experience. Calgon is good, but if you want a heavy duty strip if you have hard water, then RLR is better.

  • Thanks!  Maybe I will pick up  some Calgon this week and try that first.  I am hoping to find it at Target.  How much Calgon do I use? Do I use it every time I wash?

  • You can't buy Calgon at Target. I buy mine off Amazon because I can't find it in a store here. (Haven't checked Walmart...I don't/won't shop there).

  • I just stripped my CDs using Clagon this past weekend.  I wanted to use RLR but couldn't find it locally and didn't want to wait for it to arrive by ordering online.

I followed the instructions on the package which said to use a half cup.  I did one hot wash/cold rinse cycle with the Calgon then a warm/warm cycle, a rinse and spin to see if there were any bubbles left, and then another hot/cold for good measure.

I bought Calgon at Fred Meyer's (a Kroger affilate).

  • Probably a dumb question, but you do the calgon strip with clean diapers, right??? And you don't add any detergent with this??? I need to do a strip and would like to do it tomorrow. Tia, Sarah
