Cloth Diapering

Prefolds/cover question

I'm a newbie and we're trying to get things ready-  I have a few prefolds that i'll want to use for NB-  but these need some type of a cover right??

What do i need?  Something waterproof made of PUL?

I'm a knitter and was thinking of looking into making wool covers, do people use wool covers with prefolds?  I looked on the FAQs and it seems like wool covers only are used with fitteds... i'm confused...

Re: Prefolds/cover question

  • Yes.  Prefolds will definitely need a cover unless you're willing to constantly touch the diaper to see if it's wet.

PUL covers are great & they can be used more than once if the diaper is just wet (just wipe it out & put it back on).

I suppose wool could be used with prefolds, but you'll only be able to use it once (it'll be slightly damp when you take it off & you'll need to wait until it dries to use it again).

Personally we only use our wool with fitteds & almost always just at night, but I think it just comes down to personal preference.  With DS#2 (arriving in August), we'll be using a mix of prefolds & fitteds with PUL covers during the day & wool at night.
