I'm debating whether to order snaps or aplix on the 4.0s but I've read mixed reviews on the quality of the aplix over time. I know snaps generally wear better than aplix overall, and I like to have a mix of both in my stash, but I have also read that certain brands hold up better than others. Share your experience with BG aplix vs. aplix in other brands please! Also, has anyone needed to use the BG refresher kits? How easy would it be for someone with zero to minimal sewing experience, with no machine?
Re: How well has your BG 4.0 aplix held up?
Most of them have held up great. They are all seconds. That said, all of my yellow bgs look terrible. I have no idea why just those diapers look so bad. But, they do.
They have not held up as well as the snaps. But, the snaps can be hard to get the right fit (especially for people who don't want to pull them tight enough, read: H and daycare).

I've been CDing my son for about a year and some of the aplix definitely needs replacing. For some reason his two artist series diapers are the worst, a lot of times the aplix doesn't stick to the front panel and the diaper starts to fall off! My stash isn't huge, maybe 18-20 BGs, so they get a ton of use. I'll probably buy refresher kits for about 10 of them. All that being said, I'd buy them again and plan to do so with LO#2. They work great otherwise, and daycare uses them with no problem.
I borrowed a sewing machine to make it easier, but I think you can find instructions online for repairing them by hand.
ETA: If it weren't for daycare, I'd get about half aplix and half aplix for when DS is being extra squirmy. Snaps would be very difficult to get on him right now.

I have no idea why, but some are holding up better than others. I have some 3.0s that I got when cottonbabies was having a seconds sale and those look way better than the 4.0s. But the 4.0s look pilly/tabs curling/etc. And LO can get them open easily.
Snaps look perfect and LO can't take off his diaper BUT MIL seems incapable of putting snap diapers on tight enough and then his diaper is literally falling off and leaking. So I save the aplix for the times she watches him.
I have other brands with aplix and while none of the aplix looks brand new the BG4.0 are by far the most worn looking.
I have three BG 4.0's with aplix. I've been using them about a year now. Two of them are horrible! They still stick, but barely. They need the aplix to be completely replaced, including the strip on the front, or converted to snaps. One of them just needs the side stickies replaced.
They did hold up much better than my HH's though, those were terrible after a few months of wear.

We have all snap BG 4.0's except for one. Our one aplix diaper we barely use b/c it is terrible. We have used all of the diapers for about 17ish months now. Our snap diapers still look brand new. The aplix diaper barely sticks and the tabs are super duper curly. I can't imagine how terrible it would look if we used it regularly. My DS also rips it off within 5 min. if we don't have pants over it. He's never tried to get the snaps off. The snaps aren't difficult, my DH does them just fine (which is something!) haha. We say regularly "I'm so glad we didn't get all aplix! I hate this diaper."
ETA: We have about 35+ diapers in use
