Hi there,
My 18mo old DD had another blood test 2 weeks ago for her food allergies. Her first one was done at 9months, she had skin testing done at 10 months, 1 year, 15 months. I haven't been able to get in touch with her allergist, but received her results in the mail. Up until this point we have know she is allergic to peanuts, wheat and eggs. The skin testing confirmed her allergies to wheat and eggs, but our allergist has not confirmed her peanut allergy through skin testing because of the possible reaction.
Her blood work (RAST test) came back..
Peanut 15.90 kU/L
Sesame 47.70kUL
Coconut 10.30kU/L
In comparison to the other numbers, these seem extremely high. The others were 5's, 3's, and 4's. I'm assuming that the higher the number the more severe the allergy, but I'm wondering if different foods are measured differently. Can anyone offer any insite to this? I plan to call the doctor, but am just a little anxious and discouraged right now.
Thanks!
Re: Does anyone know how to interpret these test results?
The RAST test is scored on a scale from 0 to 6:
Just be careful and use this just as a basic guide because the level of allergy doesn not always indicate the type or severity of a reaction that may occur. At a young age the immune system is still developing and your allergy can go from low to severe and you don't know it or you can have a low allergy yet still have a severe reaction. Do you have an epipen?. This board is great and very helpful...good luck. Looks like her sesame is really high and peanut too...
