Im hoping that I can get some advice on this board since hopefully you have all had your babies and you may have some tips for me.
Im getting ready to register for my baby and I was wondering if there were things that you forgot to register for that you wish you would have or that you did register for and found that you really didn't need.
Any suggestion on specific things that you love and you couldn't live without?
Thanks for any help and suggestions
Re: Getting ready to register......any tips??????
A Boppy. I thought it was kind of stupid and over-priced...nope. I use it to breastfeed, bottle feed, prop LO up, tummy time, and for my back when I'm pumping.
I rarely ever post but this was just such a good question! I have a two month old and these have been my staples that have been really great for me:
"Happiest Baby on the Block" by Harvey Karp
The white noise sheep (cloud b sleep sheep). I have the travel one and take it everywhere.
Wubbanub (this keeps you from having to put the paci back in baby's mouth over and over)
aden + anais 4 Pack Muslin Swaddle Wrap (great for when I need to swaddle asap and she is already dressed warmly)
Itzbeen baby care timer has been great for keeping track of... well, everything.
If you are planning to breastfeed, some wool lanacare nursing pads. They feel like heaven compaired to disposables and cotton pads. They breath and always feel dry.
Congrats to you on your up and coming bundle of joy
A swing that doesn't operate on batteries, but an outlet
Aden + Anais blankets, bibs AND burpies (can be used as a burp cloth and has a snap to be used for a bib too)
Moby wrap or another carrier
Rock N' Play
Boppy and at least 1 additional cover for it
Sheet savers and/or pads
Mommy's Bliss Gripe Water
Nose Freida...best thing ever!
Don't waste time on registering for clothes, people will get you so many before, during and after the baby is born
Summer Infant Snuzzler
Canvas, wicker bins to keep blankets, burp clothes, etc. in (whether it stays in babies room or you keep it in other rooms)
Diaper Caddy
Halo Swaddle Sacks!
Whatever you do, do not register for receiving blankets. We got a ton of them and have very little use for blankets that size and weight!
#1 = Rock and Play!
Other than items already mentioned, I was happy to have:
-loads of baby washcloths: I only registered for one set not realizing that you need 2-3 with each bath. I received way more than I registered for and am so glad I did!
-safety cotton swabs: wasn't something I considered needing but received and they come in handy.
-pacifiers in different brands: I was so happy that people had purchased different brands for me. When I went to try and use them for LO, it was nice to have the different ones to try and figure out which brand LO liked the best and stayed in her mouth the best. [same goes for bottles in different brands]
I wish I hadn't registered for so many receiving blankets. I ended up using SwaddleMe's to swaddle instead, plus I was given about 10 hand-me-down ones so I now have a whole drawer full of them and only use 2-3 of them.
Have fun!
These are the things we love and use every day:
Boppy (with an extra cover)
Rock and Play
Activity Mat
Noise Machine
I can't think of the name of them, but they are waterproof liners for the changing table, plastic on the bottom and material on top. She has peed on the changing table quite a few times and this saves us from changing the whole pad, haha.
Halo Sleep Sacks are perfect for when they are really little to swaddle with. SwaddleMe and SwaddlePods are really good too, but my LO is a master and getting free from them...
If you are going to pump, get an extra set, it's great to have handy when it's time to pump and you don't want to wash!
I agree about not registering for clothes or blankets. We didn't register for them and got a ton. Any time someone came to visit, we got clothes. I have more clothes 0-6 months for her than what I own for me. Even little things like socks, we got so many of them too.
We received zero receiving blankets and had to buy some!
We didn't register or buy a bottle warmer. Wound up having to supplement a bit even though we were Breastfeeding and were running out to get one immediately.
Love...boppy pillow, rock-n-play, activity gym that the baby lays on and plays w/ hanging toys, prefolded diapers for burp cloths, umbrella stroller (a nice one not a cheap one, we have a Mclauren), moby wrap, Britax carseat.
don't forget to register for things for when LO is a little older...sippy cups, spoons/forks, plates, bowls, 6 months+ toys, bigger diapers (my DD is 11 weeks and in size 2 already), bath toys.
Didn't need...whole stroller system (too bulky) and pack-n-play (didn't use it for much more than a big diaper changing table).
A Fisher Price Rock N Play
If you want a bassinet for the bedroom, go for a co-sleeper. I had no idea I'd want one until after LO was here, and DH's uncle bought us a really nice - tall - bassinet already.
Lots and Lots of diapers and wipes!!
Don't register for a bunch of one type of bottle or paci. You won't know what type of nipple your LO will prefer until you try them, and you dont want to be stuck with a bunch of bottles LO doesn't like!
Thank you for all of the great advice......we are so excited!!!!!!!!
First congratulations!!!
We have a 4 month old, and these are the things we use SO much and love, or just could not live without! :
SWING- this SAVED us the first several weeks. Seriously... was the only place my son would sleep!
Rock n play: Bought this when my son was 2 months old, and ever since then he's slept long stretches at night. Think it's because it's at an incline, and my DS has reflux
EXTRA diaper changing covers: You will change them frequently because of pee/poop/spit up, and it's good to have more than 2 or else you'll be in a position where you dont have any to use!
Kick n play piano: My son LOVESSSS this! Just started really getting into it the past 2 months though- but it is definitely his favorite toy
wubanub- IF your LO likes soothies.... definitely go with one of these!
Things that were a waste of money for us:
burp clothes- we got a ton of fancy burp clothes as gifts.... we use plain cloth diapers. They are so much better for cleaning up projectile spit up! lol
pacificers: Your LO will probably only take one kind. Don't waste your money on a ton of pacifers, and then find out he will ONLY take the one you didn't even buy!
Hope this helped!
things we use daily and love
Rock n play for sleep
burp clothes tons of these
gas drops dont forget these, can be life savors
diaper pail, totally worth it
if FF get one of the containers that holds premeasured folrmula powder, it is easier to just pour into the bottle when desperate for a bottle while in public
dont buy alot of pacis until you know if LO will take them
boppy
carseat tent, so much easier than trying to hold on a blanket on a windy day
mirror with lights and music for the car, great distracion when LO starts to cry in the car and you cant do anything becuase your driving
oh and I love the bottle rack for the bottles while they are drying
Here are the things I couldn't live without (besides the obvious, car seat etc.)
Rock N Play - Lord how I wished I would have registerd for this. Any baby shower I go to, this is the present I am bringing.
Summer Swaddles- have to use one everynight
Fisher Price Glow Seahorse- DS loves this when he is trying to go to sleep
Dr. Brown bottles- the only kind he will use
Gripe Water- we use this when he is gassy and it works great
newborn clothes- for us we didn't get enough and I ended up having to buy some
mam pacifiers- he prefers these and seem to be a bit more "breathable"
Keep the gift receipts/tags on clothes until your LO is here. We hardly got any newborn sized clothes and more 0 - 3 month than I care to even think about. At 2 months our LO is still in newborn sizes and hasn't graduated to any of the 0 - 3 except for sleepers. I would have liked to return some of the bigger clothes and got little ones. You won't know until they're here.
I love my video monitor even though I didn't think I needed it.
Sheet savers!! We have 5 and when LO was a newborn there were nights we easily went through all 5 because he'd pee through his diapers.
Definitely don't get blankets! That seems to be a VERY popular gift once the baby arrives.
Congratulations!
Definitely a swing- it has been a lifesaver for us!
Swaddle sleepsacks
White noise machine
Activity mat/ play gym
Tons of burp cloths and washclothes
I wouldn't register for blankets or clothes- we got tons of these anyway.
After 2 1/2 years TTC, 3 IUI's, endo, and a lap, a surprise BFP brought us Alexandra Marie!
These are the things that I didn't register for but wish I did. I ended up buying these myself after the baby got here:
Moby Wrap
Rock n Play
Arms Reach Co-sleeper
Itzbeen Timer
Aden + Anais Swaddle blankets
Nose Frida
I use all of the above on a daily basis (with exception of the Nose Frida, but it is amazing for when baby gets stuffy!)
I registered for and received the Boppy with an extra cover. I couldn't live without it!
Like everyone already said, get a Rock 'n' Play. Also love Summer Infant brand velcro swaddles. Sign up for Lucie's List to get advice on which specific brands and models to buy.
