We did a big first birthday party, but I'm not really wanting to do that this year (mostly because I don't want friends and family to feel obligated to buy him a gift). I'd really like to do something fun with him, though. Any ideas?
I'm probably over thinking this considering that he thinks a trip to the grocery store is fun
Re: What did you do for your LO's 2nd birthday?
On his actual birthday, nothing.
I started a job about a month prior, and didn't have TO, so he went to daycare. We just bought some cupcakes and gave him his gift.
We just had a really small party the Saturday after. It was loosely based on Mo Willems/The Pigeon books - the pigeon loves hot dogs, so we had a hot dog party. I actually just posted about it in my food blog (LIS).
DS had a lot of fun because he got to open presents, eat cake (a rarity hah) and hang with grandpa. He loves his grandpa.
DD was born in October and DS was born in December so we did a joint 2nd/1st birthday party in November. One reason was because we were going to invite the same people to both, so why not have one part. The second reason was to avoid DS's party being in December (where people are super busy with Christmas).
Our party was joint, and therefore a bit "large".... We invited over 100 people. 70 said they'd show up, but about 50 did. We had it in a church gymnasium. We had a bunch of food, and 3 tier cake, a bouncy house, and other kids games.
I will NOT be having another party this big until they are 16 or until we win the lottery. It was quite expensive and took a lot of planning. Also, with #3 on the way, I can't do a joint party for two kids and leave the 3rd one out.

We had a somewhat smaller party at my parents' house (we don't have the space) with about 20 guests. Family plus just a couple friends.
We did a ladybug theme. Had pizza, pasta salad, veggies/dip, and cake/cupcakes/ice cream for dessert. It turned out really nice.
No games since it was just our dd and one other child. Just visited and opened gifts.
DD's birthday is late July so it is miserably hot here in LA so we looked for an indoors location. We had hers at the Children's Museum. All of our friends have kids now, and DH"s family is large with lots of kids so it was a hit. I didn't have to clean up before or afterwards, needed minimal decorations, just got finger sandwiches, a veggie tray and some chips and dip plus the cake.

We have no family local so we hosted another big bash at our house. We had about 35 people and kids. It rained so the yard was pretty soggy. Near the end of the party he sun came put and we inflated the bounce house.
Toy Story theme, pizza and salad for lunch, presents and cake. I had juice boxes and water for kids and tea and sangria for the adults.
For various reasons, we're having DD2's birthday party this weekend. It will pretty much be the same as her first birthday, with family and a few of our close friends at our house.
Not that she'd know any better, but since it'll be three weeks after her actual birthday, I wanted to do something to celebrate closer to her birthday. We ended up taking the girls to a children's museum and then having cupcakes so we could sing happy birthday to her, just the four of us.
