almost 3 week old in cloth diapers?

hey all...i was going to start trying out my stash of cloth diapers on my almost 3 week old son today but i tried to put an econobum prefold and cover on my 9lb 3 week old and it looks huge on him and gappy around the legs...my stash consists of all one size diapers (both covers and pockets)...is this normal for one size diapers or should i wait alittle longer to start cloth diapering with my one size stash?? thanks in advance

One size diapers don't start fitting till around 13 lbs.

This is fairly common for one size diapers. We started using our one size pockets on DD when she was around 10lbs at 5-6 weeks old. She had pretty chunky legs at the time though, that definitely helped prevent leg leaks.

Totally normal. I found that Econobum were among the largest of my OS stash. They did not fit DD at all until about 10.5 lb/6 weeks. At 12.5 lb/10 weeks they fit well on the smallest rise and waist settings.

If you have any Grovias you might be able to use those as they run smaller. Otherwise, wait a bit longer.

We weren't able to use our OS diapers until my son was 2.5 months old. The first ones to fit well were our Oh Katys.

I'm a FTM so this is not coming from experience, but I intend to do prefolds until baby hits the 12lb mark.

I had really good luck with prefolds and XS thirsties covers until about 7/8 weeks.

Size 1 Weehugger covers are great early on, I have also heard great things about Lil Joey's.

If you want to do prefolds, thirsties duo covers size 1, bummis whisper wrap XS, rumparooz NB, and bummis super lite XS worked great. For an AIO, I really liked BG NB AIO.
