CP! At what point would you induce?

Re: CP! At what point would you induce?

  • My induction is scheduled for 41w1d...hope he arrives on his own before then though

  • At my appointment today, they started talking about inducing next Monday. I would be 41W 1D. I think I might try and push them back and give me a couple days. Being induced scares me....

  • I am planning an out-of-hospital birth at a birth center, so to induce I will have to ditch my whole birth plan and head to the hospital.  This means I'd probably wait until 42 weeks (unless there's a medical reason).  If I was otherwise planning a hospital birth, I'd probably go for an induction around 40w3d 'cause my family will be in town by then just waiting for me to go into labor!

  • I chose 42 weeks but I really don't have a choice- my OBs won't induce before then unless there is a medical reason

  • My OB's office will only go to 41 weeks. But with me, the longest they'll let me go is 40.5 weeks because of the baby's size.
  • I had an induction scheduled on her EDD of March 30th, went into labor in late afternoon, early evening of March 21st, and had her early the next morning.  I wanted her to come on her own, but I was getting to the point of extreme pain and started having anxiety attacks.  Two days after scheduling my induction I went into labor on my own.  At 38 weeks and 6 days, she was 10 lbs 4 oz.....in this case I'm glad I didn't carry to 40 weeks, I had a hard enough time pushing her out, another ounce could have sent me in for an emergency c/s!

  • As long as my NSTs looked good, I would never induce before 42 weeks 0 days. These are ACOGs recommendations for best practice and the health and well being of my baby is more important than my comfort or doctor's schedule. I know this will be a struggle, though, if the baby doesn't come sooner. My practice likes to induce at 41 weeks so I'm preparing my "I don't want to be induced" speech for my appointment tomorrow.

  • My induction is set for 40weeks 3days.
    A - 4/27/12     D - 7/14/14
  • We're 38 and scheduled for tomorrow but it's due to my medical issues. Right now I'll do anything to get him here safely and keep me healthy. Beyond that I'd probably say I wouldn't do it at all until it was unhealthy for him.

  • I am scheduled for 40w4d.  My last was 6.5lbs at 37 weeks and i'm sure this one is bigger and it is OP and I have tried all kinds of things to turn baby but nothing will work.  I didn't want to wait until 41+ weeks (bigger baby) and have baby stay OP and have a difficult if not impossible time trying to get baby through my pelvis.  Last time I was induced I just had some cytotec and later they broke my water, and I had an unmedicated FAST vaginal delivery.  The plan is to just break my water on Friday and go from there.  I am already 3cm, 75effaced, and 0station so hopefully things will take off well.

  • oh yeah, and at my hospital they do the blood sugar protocol for babies born at 41 weeks and after.  This means they poke the heel and check for low blood sugar prior to every feeding and at least every 2-3 hours for at least the first 12 hours of life.  I want to deliver prior just to avoid that for baby's sake.

  • My OB didn't talk specifics but he said that they don't let women go past 41 weeks due to the placenta starting to shut down. I don't know if the deadline is exactly 41 weeks or if there is a little wiggle room. I think I would prefer not having a baby on 4/20.

  • I'd ask for NSTs if I  went past my due date.

  • Had a NST today which looked good, U/S on Thursday to check fluid levels and baby size.  Going in Sunday night for ripening and being induced Monday morning.  Doc originally wanted Friday, but I'd rather go the full week and see if he comes on his own, not to mention I'd like the couple extra days to make sure we are ready.
