Trying to Get Pregnant

Nausea after IUD removal?

I got the IUD removed almost 3 weeks ago, and I have been feeling nauseous for the past few days.  I think I'm only 6dpo so it's highly unlikely it is because of a pregnancy.

Was anyone else nauseous after having Mirena removed?  If so, how long did it last?

Re: Nausea after IUD removal?

  • I had nausea for about a week after I had mine removed, but I think that was more from the anesthesia(I had to have a hysteroscopy to have it removed, threads were too short.) than from the removal itself. It could just be your body adjusting to not having those hormones anymore.

How long did you have it?

Google "Mirena crash" it's somewhat common. HTH

I had it for about 2 years.  I felt pretty good for the first week or two after removal, it's basically just been for the past 3-4 days I've felt crappy.  I've been nauseous and extra exhausted.  I did google and read that lots of people experience pregnancy symptoms after removal - maybe that's what's going on with me.  Blah.

  • A lot of doctors dismiss it, because they want women to continue using them. I, for one, will never get another one. I had issues the whole time I had it. The icing on the cake was having to wait for months to get it removed because the doctor who place it cut the threads too short. I would rather have my tubes tied than get another one.
  • Mirena has a hormone-releasing component to it. Removal of hormones quickly can cause some adjustment issues for your body. Yes, I was nauseous for several weeks after my Mirena was removed and had some bouts of extreme fatigue. I also had a very slight fever for a few days.

And I totally agree with this. I had issues with mine too. Not the strings. In fact, the actual removal was the only part that didn't cause issues. I wish I had done it sooner!!

How awful.  I wish I had investigated it more before getting it.   I will never get one again either.
