We are so outdated and need to start streaming. We don't ever seem to have the time to watch any movies at home, but sometimes, like this past weekend, we want to watch a movie. We went to Best Buy and picked up a Roku 2xs (I'm still undecided on whether we should keep it or get blu-ray with streaming options), but now I don't know who to stream with. Is it worth the $7.99/mo for Netflix if we don't watch that many movies? On the other hand, I have no idea what the selection is like on Amazon's on demand app offered by Roku. Any tips or advice?
TIA!
Re: Amazon video streaming or Netflix??
If you like newer releases versus older releases? Go with Amazon.
If you want to simply rent a movie whenever the mood strikes? Go with Amazon.
Netflix is good, in my opinion, for TV show watching (minus the newest seasons) and kids. I love that it has a lot of awesome shows for my DD to watch, and that's basically what we use (we don't have cable either). However, the downside to Netflix is that it doesn't have newer releases often. If Amazon on our PS3 worked correctly out here in the sticks we'd likely use it more. I've got a Kindle Fire too so it would get used a lot, in my opinion. However, it's $79 a year for unlimited -- that's cheaper than Netflix per month, but if you don't watch movies or TV shows that often I'd just stick with renting what you want when you feel like it. They often have deals on rentals, too.
We have both. We have an Amazon Prime membership because we still get diapers and wipes through there, so we have the unlimited prime streaming. However, the selection is VERY limited!
I actually prefer the Netflix for the selection.
