Question about the Frontier 85

I'm looking at the Britax website and it says the depth is 27 to 27.5 inches in the harness setting and 20 inches in the booster setting. Can someone explain what changes between the two settings that would create that 7 inch difference? I really would like to get the Frontier for my 2 year old so that my 3 month old can move into the Boulevard 70. Also, has anyone installed the Frontier in the third row of a Traverse or other cross over? I tried putting the Boulevard into the third row and there was hardly any leg room so if the Frontier is larger depth wise I am thinking it won't fit at all.

Re: Question about the Frontier 85

  • These stats may help:

    Stated Limits:
    Harness Weight Range: 25-85 lbs.
    Booster Weight Range: 40-120 lbs.
    Harness Height Range: 30-57 in.
    Booster Height Range: 42-65 in.
Harness Age Range: at least 2 yrs old
    Booster Age Range: None Stated

    Measurements:

    Lowest Harness Height: 12.5 in.
    Highest Harness Height: 19.5 in.
Shortest Crotch Buckle Position: 5.5 in.
Longest Crotch Buckle Position: 9.5 in.
    Crotch Buckle Length: 5.5 in.
    Internal Seating Depth: 14 in.
    Internal Seating Height: 24 in
    Internal Bottom Width: 11.5-12.5 in.
    Internal Shoulder Width: 15 in.
    External Seat Width: 19 in.
Lowest Booster Belt Guide Height: <data missing>
Highest Booster belt Guide Height: <data missing>
    Seat Weight (High-back): 19.6 lbs

    Other Information:
Lock-offs Provided: Does not have Lock-offs
LATCH in Booster Mode: Can Use LATCH
Expiration Limit: 9 years from manufacturer date
Seat Modes: Harness/ High Back Booster

So the limits you are refering to relates to the harness/torso heigh maximums for the harness and booster, not the actual seat depth. The internal seat depth is only 14", so external won't be much more than that. It should fit fine anywhere in your vehicle, especially if you are only installing it with one other seat in the car. I've got two, both are currently in the captain's chairs in my minivan, I've also had one installed in the 3rd row when dd4 was an infant.

Just to make sure, you're talking about installing the Boulevard ff and lacking leg room, right? Leg room on the Frontier hasn't been a problem for ours, and my 6 year old is using one.

Thank you very much for that info! Yes I'm talking about the Boulevard FF. I'm not concerned about fitting them all in with just two but more when #3 comes along and possibly a fourth.
