My DS was born at 35weeks and I am a stay at home mommy. So friday of last week my DS who is 2yrs old was crying in pain and saying foot hurt. We were in car and took 20mins to get home and he was crying the whole way. When we got home he was still sobbing. I brought him in the house took off his shoes and looked at his foot. I did not see anything noticable. I gave him tylenol. He calmed down after a bit and was willing to walk on it. This is not the first time this has happened with complaining about his leg or arm hurting. His doc is aware of it. He said we would run some tests at his 30month check up, if he is still having pain episodes then. Well since he had the episode getting him down for naps and bedtime has been horrible he screams and cries like crazy. Yesterday he was saying his head hurt.
My question I guess is... should I call the ped office and see about getting in sooner? I am just worried that something bad might be going on.What are your thoughts? Am I overreacting(spelling)?
Thanks in advance.
Re: What do you think?
I don't want to freak you out but I would insist on getting him seen sooner. I have heard of blood clots that were really painful and went unnoticed until they did damage. He could have hurt himself and you not know it and instead of a bruise on the outside could have a clot on the inside. I had a friend .. a young adult who was totally healthy and she had slipped and bumped her leg. It was hurting and hurting but wasn't bruised so she ignored it. Well one day she was walking and just dropped. Sadly she passed the same day. The blood clot was in her leg and went up to block her heart.
My son when he was 2 had heart surgery. He had a hole in his heart but they fixed it through a vein in his leg. They kept him afterwards for a few days just because the possibility of blood clots. They said if they catch them early they are easy to stop.
Also .. have you checked his belly really well? My son had a hernia that was in his 'sac' and it would poke out and become painful to him. It would not always poke out so I wouldn't notice it unless he was crying or straining. He would act like his leg hurt when that was poking out too. Once we discovered it the doc scheduled his surgery for that week but I did notice when it was poking out he didn't want to walk or move that leg. I assume it would rub on the painful hernia. It was an easy fix though .. he was about 2 when he had it fixed. He went in for surgery and a few minutes later it was fixed. Surgery didn't phase him. He was up playing the same day!
My point being .. since the lil one can't tell you whats going on and it seems he is in pain I would not let the doc's brush you off. I would insist they get to the bottom of it now! It has to be so frustrating to be a baby and not be able to tell someone whats wrong!
Good luck .. I hope and pray its nothing serious!
