Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Baby mesh feeders?

LO is started to get very interested in table food. He is always grabbing food off my ate but he just sucks on it. Of course, I'm worried about him choking so any ideas for approriate food?

Also, I thought it would be a good idea to get one of those mesh feeders you can put food in and let the baby suck or chew at. What types of foods work good for that?

Re: Baby mesh feeders?

  • My DD loves the mesh feeder things.  I do frozen fruit (great for teething), ice cubes, melon, pretty much anything that can fit!

  • My 7 month old gets to taste anything on my plate when we are eating, except for meat- as recommended by her pedi until 9months. Rice, beans(squish the insides out), etc. She also loves her mes teether. I have found that strawberries and watermelon work the best, but it's quite messy! She LOVES the strawberries. Apples don't really work because they are hard to crunch on and not juicy.
  • We gave Smudge a kiwi in the feeder. He loved it. We also tried a plum, but he was tired and fussy, so he wasn't interested.

  • Great! I'm going to te grocery today and will pick up some of these fruits. Thank you!

  • I tried banana.  She was just as interested chewing on the feeder as the mesh part with the fruit in it.  Plus flinging it around and throwing it in the floor like a toy.  Then the banana got all stuck in the mesh and through rinsing, washing twice in the dishwasher and soaking it's still brown and gross. Maybe a juicier fruit would work better.

  • frozen fruit.  soft fruit like melon, but it will disappear fast! Also try apple, harder and lasts longer.  And vegies! much lower sugar.  My son loves yellow squash.
