Tomorrow is my follow up ultrasound after seeing an empty gestational sac at what I thought was 6 weeks 4 days. They didn't say much, but thought maybe my dates are off so tomorrow is the day after one horrendous week of wait.
I've been expecting the worst because I don't want to break down again in the office, but keep searching the internet for miracle stories.
I guess on the bright side either way I can move forward.
Anyway is there such a thing as a baby being behind this early??
Re: ultrasound tomorrow after empty Ges sac
I had a similar thing happen. We thought I was about 6 1/2 weeks when I went in and all they saw was an empty sac. We waited a week and a half and I went back in on Friday. We were able to see our baby and its cute little heartbeat! It was measuring 7w6d when my lmp said I should have been 9 weeks. Long story short, my kid is 8 days "behind" but still healthy. Hopefully that is all that is going on with you!
Good luck!!
I would base where you are on when you got your positive hpt and then work backwards from there. With my fourth pregnancy I went in for an ultrasound early in my 6th week and all we saw was a large yolk sac, no baby, and I was told that I probably just ovulated later than I thought. Nope, I knew that wasn't the case. I got a positive pregnancy test at what I believed to be 10dpo so had I gotten pregnant a week later than I thought that would have meant I got a positive hpt at 3dpo, which is impossible.
When you say it was empty do you mean you didn't even see a yolk sac?
I'll be hoping for the best for you.
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
This Cluttered Life
I am pregnant with twins. In my first ultrasound around 6 weeks all they could see were the two sacs and they looked empty. By about 8-9 weeks they could see the babies and get the heart beats. My doc told me when he only saw the empty sacs that its very common to not see much more then the sac's that early on. So take a deep breath! Your baby is most likely just fine!
All we saw in my first scan was two empty sacs ... but both babies are doing just fine now and I am in my second trimester.
Good luck to ya!
I will be rooting for good news for you.
I'm in your same boat - I just got home from my first doc appt, where they saw on empty sac. The doctor said she's hopeful that I'm just too early - (they let me come in at what should be 7 weeks, intead of 8, because I just had a miscarriage in January) - but I think I'm pretty solid on my dates. I wasn't charting but my cycle is regular and I can usually tell from the way I feel when I am ovulating.
I am really shocked by this because this one felt like such a keeper - I am so much more symptomatic than I was with the first miscarriage, but from what I've read that can happen with a blighted ovum.
I appreciate those of you who have shared their story, because I was thinking - what are the chances that there will actually be a heartbeat in a week? So its good to hear that it has happened, although I'm not going to keep my hopes. Now comes the long wait...
I feel real bad for you. I know the wait has been pretty hard wondering if you have a healthy baby or if you have to go through a miscarriage. I know some of the posts on here have made me feel better! Sometimes you need that even if it just makes you feel better for a little while. I will let you guys know tomorrow what happens! Thank you very all the kind thoughts.
when I had my ultrasound at 6w2d there was nothing but an empty gestational sack... no yolk sac, nothing...
I am now 17 weeks pregnant and EVERYTHING IS OKAY. Baby is doing great, heartbeat of 160 bpm.
Will be looking for your update tomorrow.
Carla
A heart beat can occur in just 2 days. Depends on how far along. Blighted ovums are gest sacs that measure the regular size with nothing within. For example if you are to be 8 weeks and the sac measures 8 weeks w/ no contents, then it's more than likely a blighted ovum, however if you think you're 8 weeks and the sac only measures at 5 weeks than there is more of a possibility of an embryo forming with a HB in just a few short days. Also since you unfortunately miscarried only a few weeks ago, it is unlikely your menstrual cycle was back to normal so son...
Both of you try to keep your heads up! Could easily just be too early for dates!
