RP: question if your LO sleeps with a white noise machine

-->

disclaimer--my kids won't be 2U2, but thought i might find more answers on this board!

i fought getting a white noise machine for my DS when he was a newborn because i was scared he'd get so used to it that he wouldn't be able to sleep without it.  he was SUCH an awful sleeper for months and months that eventually i gave in, and now he uses it every night.  we live in the middle of the city so there is quite a bit of outside noise.

now we are having baby #2, and they will be sharing a room after the first few months in our room.  i'm debating getting this LO a white noise machine to start in our room from day 1 (maybe it will help this baby be a better sleeper than DS--or so i dream :)

but once they are sharing a room, do you think it would be crazy to have two white noise machines in one room? one by each child? it's not a huge room, but i feel like they need the noise right next to the bed to make it worth it.  not sure one machine makes enough noise for the whole room.

WWYD?

Re: RP: question if your LO sleeps with a white noise machine

  • My two girls share a room (since DD2 was 13 months old) and we use just one sound machine.  Rarely do the girls wake each other up and rarely do they both sleep through the night (so there are always opportunities to wake the other up).  I think one noise machine is fine.  If you find that they are waking each other up, then you could try two.

  • We only have one in each room. It's plenty loud enough in the boys (ds1 and ds2 share a room) room.

    Which sound machine do you have? We had a graco one and that thing was way to quiet. We have these in both the boys room and the nursery: https://www.amazon.com/Conair-SU1W-Sound-Therapy-Silver/dp/B000F54AN8  It's a great sound machine and the one we have in the boy's room is almost 3 years old.

    I agree with this, we have one by dex baby and it's pretty loud.

  • I would think one in the room would be sufficient.

  • We were in the sames situation as OP and decided to use a fan for those first few months when DD2 slept in our room. Worked well enough.
