question if your LO sleeps with a white noise machine

i fought getting a white noise machine for my DS when he was a newborn because i was scared he'd get so used to it that he wouldn't be able to sleep without it.  he was SUCH an awful sleeper for months and months that eventually i gave in, and now he uses it every night.  we live in the middle of the city so there is quite a bit of outside noise.

now we are having baby #2, and they will be sharing a room after the first few months in our room.  i'm debating getting this LO a white noise machine to start in our room from day 1 (maybe it will help this baby be a better sleeper than DS--or so i dream :)

but once they are sharing a room, do you think it would be crazy to have two white noise machines in one room? one by each child? it's not a huge room, but i feel like they need the noise right next to the bed to make it worth it.  not sure one machine makes enough noise for the whole room.

Re: question if your LO sleeps with a white noise machine

  • Not sure what kind of machine you have but mine can be turned up pretty loud (too loud in my opinion, I keep it at about 1/2 volume) & I can't imagine having two in there. It has always been either on a dresser a few feet from crib or at one point (due to lack of plugs) on the floor a few feet from a crib. Unless it is really quiet (which seems to defeat the purpose) I would think one would be fine.

it's not super loud....not super quiet either--but it's right next to DS's crib and is just loud enough for him right there. maybe i need to sneak in there tonight and really evaluate how it sounds on the other side of the room.  but it's a one-level-volume machine, no option of up/down.

  • My thought would be to get an inexpensive small cd player, and a white noise cd. We have this set-up in DS's room, and you can adjust the volume to go as loud or soft as you want. It absolutely fills the whole room. I would do this instead of getting another small machine or having 2 running at the same time.

  • my girls share a room and 1 white noise machine...it works fine for them...
  • We have a regular cd/alarm clock that has nature sounds. This is what I use for white noise and you can turn it VERY LOUD. I wouldn't see buying a second one.
