What are you giving for protein?

DD is finally eating finger foods, but mainly soft ones.  She can handle pancakes, bananas, plums, freeze dried fruit, puffs, scrambled eggs, pasta, and broccoli.

The only protein really is the eggs.  What else can I give her?  If the food is too hard so gags and throws up.  Maybe I just need to keep trying.  We did baby meatballs last week but she threw up.

Re: What are you giving for protein?

  • You could try cheese (I like the kraft crumbles in the bag, it's the perfect size), cottage cheese or yogurt.

  • We do chicken, cheese, yogurt and eggs for protein. I've been wanting to try beans but I'm not sure which to start with. I'm doing ground turkey breast for her tonight.

We're not allowed to do any diary until she's one.  We had milk intolerance problems early on.  She had allergy testing which was negative but the GI recommended we wait until she's one to do any diary...

  • I just discovered my DD loves black beans. I would simmer it a bit to soften it more before giving it to LO.

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize!  I agree with the other suggestions for beans then, Liam is a huge fan of black beans.

  • DS favorite meat is Barbequoa from Chipotle. He also loves fish. He has had mahi mahi, tilapia, and salmon. You can always do beans and puree them. DS also likes hummus. We will give him chicken, steak, etc. Pretty much anything we eat, he gets.

  • Thanks for the suggestions.  I think we'll try some black beans.  I have them in my pantry, maybe tomorrow, we're going to have pork tacos for dinner and I can make some for us and DD to eat.
  • LO HATES beans...that is a problem since we are vegetarian. Sad

  • Beans!!  Dd is vegetarian for now at least. Black beans, pinto, refried, chili she loves them all.
  • You can also try soft tofu...you can really mush that up into any of the purees you have.

I second this. Ash loves beans. I actually buy packs of dry beans and cook them. Then I freeze them into cubes.  Be prepared for whole beans in the diaper though, it freaked MH out a bit!

  • We have done cheese, beans and fish.  I'm more of a pescitarian and am hoping to have DS be the same.  DH, however, is a steak eater 3x a week. :(
