newborns and sleep

so im still sleeping better than i have in 9 months, even if i only get 5 hours total....and 36 weeks was a great milestone to deliver....but it also meant an extra month of this newborn sh*t :  )  seriously i forgot how all the random noises drove me and H insane.  also, how do others let their twins sleep together?  we dont but are in the same room, and they already wake the other...like right away. we might start sleeping in separate rooms, each taking a baby.

ps - the rock n plays are amazing, thank you board.

Re: newborns and sleep

  • we kept our twins in the PnP together until they were about 5 months old (3 mos adjusted) then moved them into their room in the same crib. They were waking each other often at night in the PnP because they were too cramped. After about a month we moved them into their own cribs. Then we started them napping in separate rooms for a while, but they slept great at night in the same room. Now I'm finally back to having them nap in the same room because I really want them accustomed to each others noises and sleeping through them. It's not perfect, but they're getting more and more used to it after these first 2 weeks. It was just way too much work for me to keep running back and forth from room to room to get them to calm down and stay calm for naps (this was in the very beginning when they came home) and keep quiet to not wake the other! Oh yeah, and in the beginning we'd wait a bit to see if they actually woke the other. Some times they would both fuss but not actually wake up. That was a big help in getting them to STTN very early on too (around 4 months actual age). We gave them time to calm down and didn't jump to them and end up actually waking them up when they weren't.

  • Our room is right next to theirs so we moved them to their own room/own cribs at two weeks.  One of them would grunt all night and I couldnt sleep next to her anymore.  They did great and really never had trouble with the transition.  They wake eachother up sometimes, but for the most part, if one is crying, the other sleeps thru it.  I also don't leave the sound on their monitor on, instead I leave my door and their door open.  That way I hear the important stuff but not the grunts and snoring.
