Best Anti-Coughing Remedies

While I have finished the worst part of the war with this horrible cold,  I have a terrible nagging cough that wakes me up every two hours. I take some approved cough medicine before bed and prop my head up but it has no effect.  Does anyone have any really good advice on how to cool a nagging nighttime cough?
