email, fb, local mom forum, bump, and sometimes edit pictures...If I watch shows at night while nursing, I tend to fall asleep.
Same here... there is nothing like waking back up after realizing that you fell asleep. I always feel like the world's worse mom for this!
Out of curiosity, does your LO stay latched on?
I've dozed off in side-lying position but never fully fallen asleep. But I constantly dream I've done it. Usually several times a night I have to talk myself down and convince myself that the pillow I'm laying on isn't the baby. Neurotic mommy dreams are fun!

With my first I would get up and watch tv, then eventually when i went back to work I would have her in bed with me and nurse laying down. She would end up sleeping with me (light sleeper) and unlatch when she was done and sleep.
I feed them both formula now but I put Ethan in the Boppy and prop bottle up with towels and I put Allison in my lap while I sit crossed legged and just look on FB and the bump, sometimes on Zu lily or some baby clothing sites too.
Twins born at 34w2d, Allison, 3lb,4oz-Ethan, 4lb7oz, both 16 1/2 inches. Out of Difficulties Grow Miracles
I need 2 hands (3 would be nice) to nurse, so no activities for me. During the day i watch TV, but at night i just sit in bed and stare at my boy while he nurses. (1 hand to position DS, 1 hand to hold my gigantic boob, and a 3rd to fix the latch would be nice)
This is the same for me, at least right now while I'm still a little tender. Sometimes I can free one up to play on my iPhone - FB, check Twitter, games, etc.
Do all of you have third appendages????!!! I need three extra hands just to nurse, let alone do anything else! At night I'm sitting in my glider with my eyes closed simulateously praying that this session will be quick and trying to not fall asleep with Hank in my arms!

This is exactly why I won't try the side-lying position. I already wake up 10 times making sure LO isn't on my chest getting burped. I can only imagine the dreams if I let him lay in bed with me!
OP, I find that if I do too much while nursing at night, its hard to get back to sleep OR I lose track of how long LO is latched, and he'll eat too much (followed by spitting up a ton). So I keep my Nook on my glider table and right now I have a book there, too and occasionally I'll bump, go on FB or read, but mostly, I just stare at the clock waiting for the boob switch/diaper change.

I can only do other things if he's nestled in the boppy, or if I'm desperately trying to stay awake, I'll one hand nurse and one hand Nook.

I nurse DD using the Boppy to support her. If I fall asleep, she'll finish eating and then unlatch and sleep on the Boppy cuddled up to my stomach or side depending on what hold I'm using.

This is me. I would be nice to have a distraction while nursing at 3am. Right now I do it in bed sitting up, and I pretend that it's almost like getting sleep.
I just hold her in bed. I can't do too much or it's hard to fall back asleep. Angel baby only woke up once last night though after we went to sleep for the night (slept for 4 hours, ate, then slept for 3 hours) so this has been super easy. With DS nighttime would involve a lot of spitting up, a lot of crying, a lot of bouncing, and then repeating an hour later.

This.
I moved a hand off my boob once and felt horrible because it felt like I had just put down a jug of milk-didn't realize how heavy they really were...and I'd prefer not to squish DD's face.
If the evolutionary theory is true, we better start being born with 4 arms.

Haha! If we had four, us mothers would find a way to feel guilty about not using all of them completely efficiently at all times! As my mother says, "why don't I stick a broom up my a$s and sweep the floor while I'm a it!"
With #1 I had to have the tv on. I nurse two handed but this time I enjoy the quiet abd just zone out. Our house is a loony bin during the day do nursing is really peaceful.
I find that if I don't do anything, I'm much more aware of how tired I am and how badly I wish I were sleeping and not nursing.
In terms of hands, I do biological nursing, then once he's latched I let him fall to one side (if he wants) so he's cradled in my elbow. Depending on how things are going, that leaves 1-2 hands available (the difference between lurking and posting!). The BN has been soooooo nice for MOTN.

My DD is a trooper at nursing. I barely need one hand to get her to latch- she's a pro at it. So, she snuggles into the nook of my arm, essentially leaving both hands free. Usually, I'l turn on the t.v. and watch parts of a show, go on here and FB. She's only nursing twice/night (in between 3-5 hour sleeping sessions) and only latches for about 10 minutes total. I swear my baby has the best temperament ever!
Emerson Kate born 4/6/12, 5 lbs. 13 oz. 18 3/4 inches.
During middle of the night nursing sessions I will use my free hand to go on facebook on my phone. TB doesn't work on my phone.
If I am already all caught up with FB I'll let myself doze off for a little bit. Peyton is fully supported by the boppy even if my arms were to go limp. Also she stays latched on by herself and will just fall asleep after letting go. Some may frown upon it, but I feel comfortable doing it. Then again DH and I do a lot of things that may be frowned upon-but I'll save those the a FFFC...
I actually bottle feed at night with pumped milk because my little guy is a very slow nurser. He takes a bottle better at night-he doesn't have to work as hard and doesn't fall asleep. After he's done with his bottle and burped/changed, I go out to the living room to pump. I'll usually watch something on the dvr...if it hasn't been a douche and failed to record whatever it was I was trying to watch.

With Z I used to sit up and nurse and I would fall asleep. So much scarier than falling asleep while baby is lying next to you. I was always afraid he would roll off the boppy and onto the floor.
My birthson who came before I was ready. He doesn't call me mom but I love him just the same. ~7/10/99~
I nurse DS while side lying in bed. He wakes up, DH changes his diaper, hands him to me, I get him latched then fall back to sleep. I think I would be a zombie if I fully woke up and watched tv or went online while he nursed 3-4 times through the night at this point. That or I would end up falling asleep while sitting up and DS would roll out of my arms.
A former coworker told me that her daughter fell asleep nursing her baby while sitting in a chair and woke up in the morning to find her baby sleeping soundly in the large flower pot next to her chair! She didn't remember putting her down so she either did it in her sleep or her baby rolled off her lap into the flower pot!

My boobs are too small for side lying, so I get her latched sitting up and then settle back on my pillows and often fall asleep. She'll finish up, unlatch and fall asleep on my chest. I don't move much in my sleep, so I'll eventually wake up and either shift her up higher on my chest or lay her back down on the bed next to me again. If I get myself too stimulated, I won't be able to get back to sleep, so I have to just lay there.
It's basically tummy-to-tummy, and LO sorts out the latch independently. So he's sort of face-down on your boob, and you're laying back at a slight incline. It's hands-free, though I wouldn't want to fall asleep like that because he could topple off. But I usually let him get latched then ease him off to one side. If you google it there are some good pages on it. I find it super comfortable & relaxing.

We've had several nights like this, with literally zero sleep. It's brutal. Especially when it starts to get light outside and you're STILL bouncing.
