Please recommend your playground/swingset.

Hello everyone. DH and I are wanting to get DD a playground for her second birthday and I'm really torn on what kind to get. At first we were going to get a wooden set that had swings, monkey bars, a slide, etc. Then I went to a friends house who has a large Gorilla brand wooden playset and a smaller Little Tikes climber with a slide and swings. DD ran past the wooden set to the little tikes set and wouldn't play on the larger one even with encouragement. I'm worried if I buy the smaller set she will grow out of it too quickly and I'd we buy the larger wooden set that she will be too young/ need too much assistance. Any advice/recommendations will be appreciated. Thank!!

Re: Please recommend your playground/swingset.

  • I don't know what a gorilla set is but personally I'd go for loner lasting and if you have the budget for it.  Of course I have a three year old and were looking to get a wooden set, so we might be biased.  We also already have two little plastic things already (rummage sale finds).

  • Definitely get a wooden set.  The plastic ones are only entertaining for them until 2- 2 1/2.  The wooden one will last them for tears.  We bought our Rainbow brand swingset on Craigslist, like new for $150.  I liked Rainbow brand b/c if anything breaks you can get replacement parts.  I didn't want a new one though because they start at about $3000.

  • We have a rainbow also.  It was put in a year ago- the twins were 1.5.  We hung baby swings and would help them up and down the slide.  The slide is crazy steep and fun but by the ens of the summer (2 yrs one month) they were tearing up the ladder and down the slide independently.  It also has a rock climbing wall, and rope ladder- lots to grow with.  When it's hot they all sit up in the "club house" and draw on the chalk board or play games since it has a "roof."
