DS will be 19 months when our new LO arrives, and we'll want to have the new baby in the crib by 3 months. DS will be 22 months at that point. Too soon? Will another crib just make my life easier?
We moved DS at 16 months and he did great! I would go ahead and try it. We took out the toys but left his books and stuffed animals. I don't mind him "reading" and having his animals to play with before sleeping.

We moved DD#1 at 21 months. She was crawling out of the crib and I didn't want to buy another crib for DD#2. She did great wit the transition. The girls have to share a room and we are planning to move DD#2 into the crib in about a month. Fingers crossed that everything keeps going smooth with that transition.
Did it at 16 months for DS1 with no issues. DS2 is still in a crib but we will switch this month. There's no reason that we waited, we are just procrastinating in buying him a twin bed!
My older one flat out refused the crib at 16 months, so we moved her and she very happily went back to her amazing sleep habits. The younger one got hurt trying to climb out at 17 months, so we moved her then and she slept the same as always. I seem to have kids who leave the crib really early, though. We never had trouble adjusting, so I have no problem with it.
Our LO moved to a bed at daycare at 15onths. At home we moved her at around 18months when she refused her cot.
She did great at transitioning and we had no hassles, until about 3 months into it when she suddenly realised she could get in and out of her bed, then it was a bit of a battle to get her to stay in bed at bedtime, but nothing we couldn't ride out.
DD1 moved herself at 23 months. She's a monkey and climbs everything, but never once tried to climb out of the crib. We had planned to move her at 24 months (giving us a month before moving DD2 to the crib at 6 months), but she saw the bed and asked to sleep in it. The transition went beautifully for bed and naps, until a few weeks ago when she discovered she didn't need permission to get out of bed. Bedtime is still fantastic, but naps were a struggle for bit.

DS is still in a crib...he has shown no signs of wanting to be out of it so I'm just going with it...both his and dd's crib convert to toddler beds so I had no trouble buying a 2nd.
This is us, too. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? :-)

Ds was climbing out of the crib at 18 months or so. So we put him in a bed. He liked it. We'd find him on the floor some mornings, but he hasn't done that in a long long time. If they're ready, the transition should be fine.
LO moved to a cot at 17 months at daycare, we just recently moved him to the toddler bed becasue he climbed out of his crib 2 times and fell 2 times.
The transition has been rough, but it is getting better. The first night it took him 5 1/2 hours to go to bed. It was us constantly putting him back in bed. Now we are down to 30 minutes and that is just us sitting next to his bed rubbing his feet a bit.
Re: For those of you who moved LO to a toddler bed...
my read shelf:
We transitioned DS about 6 months ago. He began climbing out on a regular basis and I was afraid he'd get hurt.
He loves his big boy bed, but DH thinks he needs a better mattress. So we may transition again to a twin bed soon.
